강북과 강남의 스타일들이 만난다! 마포역 근처에 이 두 옷을 화려하게 입은 여성들이 눈에 띈 거예요. 진짜 컬러플하다! 이 도시적인 백경이랑 정말 멋진 컷이죠?

좋은 한국패션에 대한 컨텐츠를 만들기 위해서 우리가 많은 시간 — 그리고 돈! — 막 쓰는 건데요. 그 건 큰 문제가 아니고 — 우리 온라인 잡지가 많은 시간과 돈을 투자할 만한 아이디어라고 생각하잖아요.

I guess I could’ve given that advice for the last few years we’ve been going — “Umm, sorry. “Although we fear death, consciousness is splendid and delightful.”

Although every human being came through the “door of birth,” we must all pass through the “door of finality” someday. Perhaps this is the reason we humans consider so-called “death” the saddest, most painful moment of all. However, designer Im Seon Oc counters with the question “Why does the funeral have to be so heartbreakingly sad?” She also says, “Although we fear death, consciousness is splendid and delightful,” and invokes a theme of a funeral without solemn clothing, and filled with humorous episodes and beauty. If the last time that both the departed and those left behind will spend together is filled with laughter and beauty, this means that there is enough to create a culture of enjoying a “celebration” or a “show,” in the same way that director Dakita Yojiro’s film did in “Goodbye” or Lee is found in Cheong-jun’s novel “The Festival.” Both Yojiro’s film and Lee’s novel share the common element of the unfolding of somewhat paradoxical situations in the face of the recently departed’s death. The fifteen pieces of funeral wear designed by Im Seon Oc are similar to these situations. Although both black and white clothing symbolize the darkness of death, the flip side of this coin can be expressed through humorous masks, flowers, and lace, as well as episodes and laughter from the departed’s life.

Im Seon Oc compares life to “passion in broad daylight” or simply “being busy.” She speaks of all these things being part of the course in the enjoyment of a final, grand “dinner party.” Im Seon Oc extends you a formal invitation to this dinner party, filled with good food and drink, as well as a fashion performance to remember.

But they also do so by tracking trends, modeling clothes, and offering their own kind of content, which we can use. So, we plan to use their clothing on our models, and take heed of their trend-watching clues, while also occasionally using the two young ladies who already model their own clothing as models as well. It’s a win-win situation, we think, since they supply the content and clothes, we supply the readers and traffic, especially since 4/5 of our readership is outside of Korea.

And we’ve finally reached the 30,000+ unique visitors per month mark (meaning about 4-5 times that many raw “hits”), and with another deal we’re about to enter with a very major Internet player, we may very soon be several times even that in just a couple months. We’re looking hard to make the site more professional, diverse, and full of a broader range of content, even while deepening the quality of the content we already make. In our “FMS Editorials” section, we take a closer look at Korean fashion trends by taking the clothing off the street and into the studio, where we can get a better look. It’s also a place for us to experiment with more creative photography, stories, and even social commentary. The chilly mornings and evenings accompanying the biting wind say that fall is here. It’s time to take out your cute long-sleeve shirts, dark tights (why were women wearing these in the summer?), and clothing with heavier fabrics from the back of your closet.

밤낮으로 낮은 기온과 쌀쌀한 바람이 가을이 왔다는 신호다. 이젠 예쁜 긴팔 티와 어두운 타이즈 (왜 여름에 이걸 입는 걸까?) 그리고 조금은 더 두터운 옷감을 꺼내야 될 시간이다.

But fall does not merely mark a change in wardrobe but also a change of make-up. Darker, deeper hues are the norm, so I thought I would brighten up the palette with bold colors. Remember the last post about the three B’s? Well, the three Bs are even more wearable in the fall/winter seasons; your bold colors will stand out from the crowd of monotone colors.

그러나 가을은 옷장뿐만이 아니라 메크업에 변화도 줘야 한다. 일반적으로 깊고 짙은 색을 많이 선호하지만 더욱더 과감한 색으로 색채를 밝게 하고 싶었다. Three B’s을 소개했던 글을 기억하는가? Three B’s의 룩은 가을/겨울일 수록 단조로운 색채 사이에서 튀고 싶다면 입어주자.

First, the bronze eye with the nude lip–a basic yet versatile look.

첫 룩은 브론즈 눈 메크업과 누드 색채의 입술인 기본적인 룩은 활용하기 간편하다.

For the second look, we kept the eye make-up but used a matte vermilion lip color that complements our model, Yoonie’s gorgeous skin complexion with olive undertones.  By the way, Yoonie, a budding fashion student will be modeling more looks for FMS — she’s an intern for us as well.

두번째 룩에서는 눈 메크업은 그대로 나뒀으나 우리의 모델 Yoonie의 올리브 색채를 띠는 훌륭한 피부와 어울리는 입술 색으로 메트한 주홍빛나는 립스틱을 골랐다.  패션 학교 진학 예정인 Yoonie는 FMS를 위해 더 많은 패션 사진을 찍을 새로운 FMS 모델이며 우리의 인턴이기도 하다.

We put Yoonie in a print skirt with a biased cut, which became a tube dress with a handy clothespin. Here, I wanted to introduce a dual-shade eye (blue and pink) and a dab of white to bring out the eyes even more, with a bright hot pink lip. While this make-up combination can look very cute and girlish,  it can also look grown and sexy depending on the outfit.

우리는 Yoonie에게 바이어스 컷의 긴 치마를 입혔는데 빨래 집게를 사용해서 튜브 드레스로 변신했다. 여기서 나는 이중 색채(파랑색과 분홍색)에 하얀색으로 포인트를 주었고 밝은 핫핑크 립으로 룩을 마무리했다. 이 색채 콤비네이션은 비록 매우 귀엽고 소녀답지만 룩이긴 하지만 옷에 따라 섹시하고 성숙하게 보일 수도 있다.

For the last concept we put together elements of what we saw as Korean fashion–basically a overload of ribbons with fabrics that don’t go well together.

마지막 콘셉으로 우리가 보는 시각에서의 한국 패션–간단히 말하자면 지마친 리본과 잘 어울리지 않는 옷감을–과 같은 요소들을 한 룩으로 선보였다.

A thick white mini-dress, white heels with pink ribbons, bunny ears, and a pink and blue ribbon obi.  A caricature of “cute” Korean fashion indeed. Incorporating all these elements somehow reminds me of salesgirls who try to solicit customers in Myeongdong…

두터운 하얀색 미니 드레스, 핑크 리본이 달려있는 힐, 토끼 머리띠와 파랑-핑크 리본 오비다. 한국 패션을 풍자화한 룩이다. 이 요소들을 부합시킨 이 룩은 왠지 명동에서 호객행위하는 여성 직원들을 떠올리게 한다…

우리 “길거리 스타일” 컬럼은 개인의 패션 선택만 벤치마킹 하는 것이아니라, 차라리 대표적인 길거리에서 보일 수 있는 패션 장르를 잡으려고 해요.

“Street Styles” tracks not just individual fashion choices, but tries to capture fashion that is representative of types of fashion genres visible on the Korean streets.

Lately, the so-called “vintage look has been everywhere! From what I’ve seen, the various retro looks from the past few years have combined to allow a “vintage look” to finally make a mainstream beachhead into the Korean streets. The fashion leaders in the clubs and underground had already been keeping up with the vintage trend overseas, and were also mixing it with an “alternative” style. Even now, the “vintage” look in Korea is not so purely such, but also seems influenced by both an alternative aesthetic, as well as the recent “ethnic” trend in casual fashion. I’d expect an interesting vintage/alternative hodge-podge to be far more visible this fall than ever before. And be called a “vintage” trend in Korean.

요즘에 이른바 ‘빈티지 룩’는 어디서나 보일 수 있네요. 내 생각엔 2-3년동안에 ‘레트로’ 트렌드들의 영향이랑 섞이면서 원래부투 언더그라운드 클럽에서 약간 빈티지스타일과 ‘알터니티브’스타일도 보일 수 있었어요. 이젠 많은 이런 스타일들처럼 대중화가 된 거예요. 그리고 빈티지일 뿐만 아니라 약간 알터니티브의 스타일도 들어가 있는 것같아요. 보니까 요즘에 ‘에스닉 룩’한테도 영향도 받는 것 많이 봤네요. 이번 시즌에 아주 흥미스러운 빈티지 짬뽕을 기대하고 있네요. 사실 빈티지랑 알터니티브하고 섞여있는 건데 한국에서는 ‘빈티지’로 불려있을 것같아요.

이 칼럼의 첫 회로써 이번 가을 주류에 폭발적인 반응을 일으킬 뚜렷한 빈티지 패션 트렌드에 대해 언급하고 싶다. 최근 대학 패션 위크에서 눈에 띄게 많은 여성들이 할머니 원피스에 액세서리처럼 이상한 스웨터를 입고 다녔다. 이들은 비롯 자신들이 유행을 자신의 것으로 만들진 못했지만 옷차림으로 트렌드 선보였다. 대학 패션 위크에서 볼 수 있는 여성들은 주로 디자인/패션 학생들이며,일반 서울 패션 위크에서도 주를 이루는 이들은 패션에 민감하긴 하지만 트렌드를 앞서가지는 못한다. 그러나 우리 사이트의 “FMS Editorial”이란 칼럼을 장식하게 될 최초로 스카우트한 모델 은지씨는 패션 위크에서 제일 우리의 관심을 끌게 한 여성이다.

In our first installment of this column, we want to talk about the clearly-defined vintage fashion trend that is about to explode over into the mainstream this fall. At the recent University Fashion Week, there were just TOO many girls there wearing grandmama’s dresses and frumpy sweaters as accessories to ignore. And these girls foreshadow the trends here, as they pick them up first, even if they don’t do much to actively define the trend themselves. The girls one sees at University Fashion Weeks — mostly design and fashion students — as well as even during the normal Seoul Fashion Weeks, are very fashion-sensitive, but not so much the trendsetters themselves. But the most interesting among them was Eunji, whom we recruited to come into the site as our first model for our “FMS Editorials” section.

대학 패션 위크에서 발견한 우리의 최초 “FMS Model” 은지씨는 그녀의 패션 감각뿐만이 아니라 그녀의 빈티지 스타일로 나를 감탄케 했다. 그녀는 우리에게 그녀의 패션을 더 보여주고 우리를 위해 다양한 한국 패션을 그녀만의 스타일과 룩으로 선보일 FMS 모델에 대한 정보를 더 캐내기 위해 스튜디오에 찾아왔다. 그녀는 이 귀여운 빈티지 스타일을 잘 소화해내지 않는가?

This is our first “FMS Model” — Eunji — whom we discovered at University Fashion Week and just struck me with not only her great fashion sense, but vintage style. She came into the studio to show us more, as well as to find out more about becoming an FMS Model, who will model for more kinds of Korean clothing styles for us in the future, according to her own look and style. She certainly can wear this cute, vintage look, no?

트렌디한 케쥬얼 컨버스에서 진한 빨간색의 키튼 힐의 룩은 변신에 가깝다.

And without the trendy casual shoes, where we go from Converse to dark red kitten heels, the change in the look is striking.

드레스를 뽐내라! 우리는 그녀에 룩에 매우 만족스럽다.

Work that dress, girl! We love her look!

은지씨는 수중에 다른 드레스를 들고 왔으며, 놀랍게도 앙증맞은 작은, 빨간 기수 모자도 가지고 왔다.

But Eunji came armed with another dress, and to my surprise, a darling little, red jockey cap.

귀여울 뿐이다.

This is simply too cute.

그게 다가 아니다. 그녀가 아끼는 드레스를 또하나 가지고 왔지만 너무 커서 여태까지 입을 수 없었다. 그러나 그녀는 아직도 다가오는 트렌드 중 하나인 이 드레스를 보여주고 싶었다. 빨래 집게 몇 개와 색다른 카메라 앵글로 이 몸에 살짝 맞지 않는 드레스를 딱 맞게 살린 것 같다.

Oh, and that’s not all, folks. She did come with another dress she loved, but hadn’t been able to wear yet because if was just a little too large. But she wanted to show it as an example of this coming trend, anyway. But with the help of a couple clothespins and some interesting camera angles, I think we made this slightly oversized-looking dress just right.

참고: 은지씨는 이 드레스와 잘 어울릴 하얀 코르사주를 안 가지고 와서 전에 선보인 빨간 스카프로 그 자리에서 코르사주를 만들었다. 나이스!

Note: Eunji didn’t have the white corsage that she thought would go nicely with the dress, so she made a red one out of the best from the previous outfit. Nice job!

개인적으로 그녀의 키튼힐이 밝은 색상과는 잘 안 어울릴 것 같아 굽이 더 높고 광택이 있는 신발을 추천했는데 어떻게 하니 클래식한 펌프 힐이 딱이였다. 드레스는 키튼 힐보다는 전 시대, 40년대에 더 여성스러우면서도 높은 펌프가 50년대 청순하며 눈에 띄지 않는 키튼 힐 보다 나은 것 같았다.

And I thought her shoes didn’t work with the brighter color, so I suggested some slightly higher and shinier ones, which ended up fitting with the classic pump look. It just needed some older heels than the kitten ones were providing, and I was thinking 40’s with more feminine, higher pumps, rather than 50’s-era, more demure kitten heels that were considerably less flashy.

So this retro, vintage trend is on its way in, and there’s nothing to stop it. And I think it’ll leave another permanent mark on Korean fashion culture than it has in other countries, since the default position in Korea is already hyper-feminine, and mixed in with a good deal of formality, but with a little flash, to boot. Some of the younger girls call this trend of returning trends “boko.” But whatever you call it, the look’s coming, and will be here to stay, especially for certain people for whom it fits pretty well.

We shot all the shows for 2009 University Fashion Week, but our computer with all the files had a hard disk error! We’ll know on Monday whether they can be recovered — the prognosis looks good for now — but in the meantime, you can enjoy some shots from last year’s University Fashion Week, either directly as a Flickr set or as a really cool slideshow.

[From previous University Fashion Week / 전 대학패션위크]

From TODAY until Friday (9/9 to 9/11), this is actually one of the best shows of the year, with the students from Seoul’s top fashion universities showing their graduation creations. They are usually much more adventurous and risk-taking than the established designers you see in large shows, so this show is definitely one of the most fun to look at. This semester, it’s being held at the SETEC convention center down at 학여울 Station, way down on the #3 orange line. Here’s the link in Korean — normally, you could skip it, but it has a timetable of which schools are showing, on which days. Also, here’s a link to coverage of previous years’ university fashion week.

And by the way, our fashion diarist Ryuji is graduating and showing her clothes at noon on Friday. You go, girl!

우리 “길거리 스타일” 컬럼은 개인의 패션 선택만 벤치마킹 하는 것이아니라, 차라리 대표적인 길거리에서 보일 수 있는 패션 장르를 잡으려고 해요.

“Street Styles” tracks not just individual fashion choices, but tries to capture fashion that is representative of types of fashion genres visible on the Korean streets.

We passed by these three ladies twice in Hongdae before asking them to pose, which we did because they ran the other side of the expected gamut of Hongdae style, as the neighborhood isn’t just filled with super fashionistas, punk rockers, and partygoers. It also has a lot of more mainstream folks who put effort into their fashion in their own way. And here, I liked how the conservative, flowered minidress anchors the three on one side, while the in-style, more form-fitting shirt dress does the same on the other, even while the friend in the middle is completely casual and carefree.

Love your dresses, girls. The two of them are trendy, but conservatively so. Gladiator-esque sandals, but not the She-ra spike heel sendups, but shoes more practical and literally down-to-earth. Pleasant, comfortable. But before leaving Hongdae, we bumped into someone in an outfit a bit more along the lines of what you’d expect in a Hongdae-esque sense.

Loved the necklace, designer tee top, big earrings, and the trendy tights with the sporty stripe on the side. Everything was just a little different. And she had the humor and attitude to match!

Finally, we spied these two young ladies walking hand-in-hand, but sporting such opposite styles.

One thing you’ll notice about Korean girls these days is the intense colored contacts, or patterns in contacts, or the contacts designed to increase the apparent size of the pupil to a solid black. The effects are numerous.

Although older Koreans still have trouble believing it, tattoos are actually becoming quite popular amongst the young.

The two in this picture were about as different stylistically as they could be, in kind of a femme/homme way.

이 쇼를 못 봤으면 정말 좋은 기회를 노친 거예요. 진짜 쿨하고 화려하고, 그리고 국립박물관의 열린마당에서 너무 시원한 바람을 부르니까 아주 좋은 장소이었네요. 보기가 너무 젛았어요. 근데 사진작가의 입장에서는 런웨이가 너무 어두웠으니까 촬영이 너무 힘들었어요. 불만하는 이유는 시청이 분명히 많은 돈과신경을 썼는데 이 작은 실수 때문에 모델이 런웨이의 끝에 와서 제일 멋진 포즈 잡으면은 어둡게 나온 거예요. 그래도 전체적으로 보면은 지난 토요일의 행사가 너무 잘 만들었다. 우아한 느낌이 와서요. 그리고 제일 좋았던 점은? 무료였어요! 이 패션쇼를 만든 서울패션협회가 정말 잘했어요!

If you didn’t get to see the show, you kinda missed out. It was pretty cool, colorful, and in a really nice outdoor venue, right there in the cool air of the National Museum in Yongsan. The setup was nice — except for the lack of lighting at the end of the runway, a photographer’s annoyance — but the fashions were colorful, interesting, and well-presented. Quite a classy little event put on by the Seoul Fashion Association. And it was free!

If you DID miss it, we took some colorful pics for ya. And you can watch them in a cool Flickr slideshow that makes for a nice several-minute break from whatever you’re doing. But here are a few highlights from the show for you to enjoy visually enjoy now!

우리 예란지이란 디자이너 [링크: 영어] 친구가 이 쇼에서 나온 거예요. 요즘에 아주 좋은 주의를 받고 있는데 예란지의 첫 비그쇼부터 이 사이트가 처음으로 취재한 거예요. 한국패션과 디자이너들에 대해서 더 알고 싶다면 이번에 우리가 낸 사진집 The Seoul Fashion Report에서도 예란지랑 아주 재밌는 인터뷰도 한 거야.

Our friend, the designer Ye Ranji, was part of the show, and we’re really happy she’s getting so much attention these days. Remember — we were the first to really cover her when she first came out in Seoul Fashion Week a few seasons back! FMS on the scene! And we featured her as a new young designer in our book, The Seoul Fashion Report, too.

전체적으로 보면 이 박물관패션쇼가 정말 대단했어요. 누구나 즐거울 수 있고 고급스럽고 무료로 좋은 엔터테인멘트럽고를 요즘에 찾기 힘든데 바로 지난 토요일에 있일어난 거예요, 진짜. 거예정말 볼만 한 거예요.

Overall, it was a great show, with something for everyone. I hope the Seoul Fashion Association and other organizations continue to put on such shows for the public, because it was really nicely done, free for the entire family, and actually something worth taking time out of your busy schedule to go see.

국립중앙박물관(관장 최광식)과 한국패션협회(회장 원대연)은 오는 8월 29일(토) 19:00 ‘한국 박물관 개관 100주년’을 기념하여 문화체육관광부의 후원으로 “옷에 문화를 입히다”라는 주제를 가지고 『박물관 패션쇼』를 개최한다.

『박물관 패션쇼』는 ‘한국 박물관 개관 100주년’을 기념해 콘텐츠의 보고(寶庫)인 박물관의 다양한 콘텐츠를 산업적으로 활용함은 물론 패션에 활용했을 때의 아름다움과 가치를 국민들에게 보여주기 위해 개최하게 된 것이다. 또한 국립중앙박물관이 소장하고 있는 다양한 콘텐츠를 패션에 접목시킴으로써 한국 패션이 세계 패션시장에서 선진국과 어깨를 나란히 할 수 있는 계기가 되도록 하기위해 마련한 것이다. 이번 패션쇼는 “여명(과거)”, “빛(현재)”, “희망(미래)” 등 3부로 진행될 예정인데, 한국을 대표하는 디자이너들이 고구려 고분벽화, 도자기, 공예품, 민화, 석조물 등 우리 고유의 문화유산으로부터 모티브를 받은 작품들을 선보일 예정이다.

참가 디자이너로는 한국을 대표하는 한복 디자이너 이영희, 신숙영, 이서윤씨가, 양장 디자이너는 예란지, 최지형, 홍혜진씨가 참가한다. 또한 이번 행사에는 박물관 홍보대사인 최수종씨 등 연예인, 오페라 오델로, 아이다, 춘희 등에 출연해 실력을 인정받은 성악가 김남두씨와 안드로이드 로봇 “에버”가 출현해 패션쇼 분위기를 한껏 고조시킬 예정이다.

For those of you interested in clothing and culture, this weekend there’s a “Museum Fashion Show” going on at the National Museum over in Yongsan. The idea is that “culture is worn on clothing” and will take a look at the past, present, and future of representative Korean designs for women. It’s going to be an interesting evening, including a fashion show featuring the designs of Korea’s top names in traditional attire: Lee Young-hee, Shin Suk-yeong, and Lee Seo-yun will be showing that night. And if you don’t know, you betta ask somebody!

That’s Saturday, August 29 from 7PM–10:20 at the National Museum’s open stage area. Take the Korean along with you to be sure: 국립중앙박물관 열린마당.

In the “Fabulous Fashionistas” column, we shoot the most fashionably original people we can find on the streets of Seoul and bring them to you. We don’t choose them because they follow the trends the most closely, nor because they have the most designers labels attached to their bodies, but because they’ve managed to create their own unique style that one can’t simply pass by without wanting to remember.

우리 Kittenita이란 친구/포토 조수와 같이 새로운 플래쉬 기술을 실험하고 찍을 만한 멋쟁이를 찾으러 홍대로 갔었어요. 근데 택시에서 내리자마자 Kittenita의 눈에 확 띈 여자가 지내고 있는 거예요. 뒷골목에 들어가서 말을 걸었어요. 보니까 이 이쁜 에스닉드레스를 입는 여자분이 의사선생님이고 참 예쁘시네요! 확인해보니 사실 이 옷은 캠보디아에서 온 거래요. 역시 여즘에 서울의 길거리에서 에스닉드레스와 외국에서 수입된 것들이 더 보일 수 있네요.

Friend and friendly photo assistant Kim and I went over to Hongdae for a little experimentation with some new flash techniques and to look for some interesting fashionables. As soon as we got out of the taxi, there she was! Kim had spotted her and we followed her into a back alley, where we asked for a few minutes of her time. She spoke fluent English and was more than willing to oblige. Turns out she is a doctor and was out for a rare day off from the hospital. And in terms of clothing, it turns out her beautiful, long dress is from Cambodia. One is seeing more and more “ethnic” imports, as well as nice pieces picked up overseas these days. She was certainly rocking it!

그리고 이 슬리퍼식 은색 샌달이 참 이쁘네요.

This past Korea Style Expo in COEX showcased different areas of Korean style, ranging from food to clothing. One of the fashions that caught the eyes of many buyers and general public was the gatshin.

The following article from Heraldbiz asserts the appeal of the traditional Korean flower shoes, gatshin, also known as kkotshin. Second generation master craftsman Choi Duk-soo, attempts at capturing the yin and yang of gatshin (they are both for men and women alike). Gang Young-min of the design research department adds that due to popular demand, the hanbok has been able to be mass produced, while the gatshin has yet to–thus adding to its value.

When I think about the modern gatshin, I imagine something along the lines of flats or kitten heels. Perhaps only then can they be paired with everyday wear such as jeans and skirts. The question is, how will these master craftsmen maintain the authenticity of gatshin without them looking like they belong to a traditional Korean museum?

지난 주에 삼청동에서 돌아다녔는데 참 흥미스러운 패션을 본거죠. 그리고 새로운 둘째 플래쉬랑 메인 플래쉬하고 같이 쓴 거 처음 이였어요. 그 날은 아주 좋은 사진실험을 막 해보고 있었는데.

Last week, we were wandering around Samcheong-dong, the famous nostalgia shopping district. It’s also famous for very dressed-down, yet super-fashionable girls walking around. It was also the first time I was experimenting with using two flashes to make portraits.

날씨가 참 이상했어요. 비가 오다가 머추다가 그랬고 구름의 모양과 색깔 잡고 싶었는데 조금 힘들었네. 삼청동에서 방향이 안 맞아서 그랬네요.

The weather was really weird and every direction you looked, the skies were much less cooperative than what remembers during the day. I tried to get more of the skies in the shots, but some started looking contrived.

근데 걸어다니면서 재밌는 사람들을 많이 만났죠. 이 친구가 지나가면서 분명히 이 룩의 포인트가 빤짝빤짝하는 파람색 구두였죠.

But as we kept walking around, we did keep bumping into all kinds of cool people, including this young lady with the funky, bling-filled shoes.

또 바로 멋쟁들이 만나게 된 거예요. 남자는 ‘쿨’하며 여자는 ‘특이하다’고 생각들었어요. 특히 그 taffeta 치마 때문에…

And we just kept bumping all kinds of cool people. The guy with his “cool” look, and the shyer girl in her taffeta skirt and t-shirt. Like it.

From this angle, even using my normal flash, their face would not be in light. So I flashed them with a second one in their faces, held by an assistant.

삼청동에서 나오면서 이 둘을 만나게 됐는데 참귀여운 대표적인 원피스와 치마를 입고 있었네요. 배경도 참 이뻐서 거기서 two-flash 시스템를 사용했어요.

Even while trying to leave Samcheong-dong, we kept bumping into fashionable folks. These two were representative of the popular shorter Korean minidresses and interesting skirts that dominate the land here.

혹과가 괜찮죠? 얼굴에 빛이 조금 많은데…

이 게 많이 신는 편범한 한국의 힐이예요. 디자이너도아니고 편하게 오래 걸을 수 있게 하는 구두이예요…

Here are typical kinds of Korean heels: designed to be a little more all-purpose, cheaper, and able to walk in all day  — because Korean women tend to wear heels everywhere!

마지막으로 이 3명을 만나게 됐어요. 이 땅에서 올라오는 빛을 이용해서 사진을 찍고 있었는데 우리가 그냥 더 멋지게 찍어드릴테니까 포즈해달라고 한 거예요. 진짜 잘한 거죠? 그리고 이 3명이 요즘에 한국의 크게 유행하는 대표적인 트렌드를 모여주는 거예요. 원피스, 글래디에이터 샌달, 하이웬이스트 반바지, 러플이 있는 여성스러운 블라우스, 리깅스, 그리고 flip-flop샌달.

On the last three ladies we met on the way out were trying to take their picture in front of this backlight on the street — I simply offered to take a much better picture than they would if they’d only pose for me. And their clothes are very representative of prevalent trends today in Korea — the minidress (in Korean, “one-piece”), gladiator sandals, puffy blouse, tights, and yes, flip-flops.
