fashion is fetish is fabulous is fun is fantastic!
Now, this is pretty interesting, since the even the venerable hanbok has gotten miniaturized, too. It’s a bit late, but good news, nonetheless:

This was all part of the 2007 Seoul Wedding Fair & Collection show, and it looks simply fabulous! I didn’t think I’d like the concept of hanbok miniskirts, and I’ve seen a lot of horrible things (see below) created in the name of making “hip” versions of Korean traditional fashion. [via Naver]
My favorite is the double-decker hanbok here, with the flowery tie sash and two poofs of traditional skirted fun done in a way that actually ends up looking quite up-to-date, what with the poofs that are so familiar and a part of minidresses since last year.
And the hat with matching red sash – smashing! Now, this isn’t meant for anything but the runway, but it does give the idea that making a hanbok-style mini-dress – especially for formal occasions – would be quite possible.
I simply like the attempt. It’s well done.
Because it can be poorly implemented as well. This, from a show back in February:

[via Naver]
Good God, that’s atrocious. Well, what do you expect from a fashion show (the one directly above, not at the top of the page) that’s more concerned with showing off “Korean culture” as is, rather than with simply designing something with the best of both Korean and other influences? That hanbok right up top is simply a normal hanbok that seems cut off and poofed up and out with wire. It doesn’t belong on a runway, nor on a rack. Ewww!
Shudder.
Will we see a ready-to-wear hanbok minidress anytime soon? Lets hope so!

You go, girls! (Actually, I think the model in the center would have looked amazing had she been wearing green’s red-and-brown-tipped traditional Korean shoes!)
1 - Designer “DIY” t-shirts, this one hand-painted or “tuned” (튜닝) in Konglish.
2 - Big bags, especially transparent see-thru ones, especially one sporting an “ethnic” feel.
3 - Neon is coming back by the end of the summer, and with a vengeance.
4 - The ethnic “long skirt,” preferably made of a cotton or other “ethnic” weave.
5 - Clear heels, or at least vamps, and other transparent things, which keep in line with the “futurism” trend.
6 - Oversized accessories are also the in thang, and I love the green, honey!
Not only does this young lady have her own style going on, and her coordination is tight, but she’s doing all that while actually riding the wave of several trends at the same time.
I don’t think she didn’t spend some time planning this in the morning, but she makes the whole affair look effortless. Kudos, girl!
Why do some women only paint the big toe? I never saw this trend until I came to Korea, so I asked around. Here are some of the answers:
The big toe is big.
You don’t really see the toes.
It’s an older style.
It’s better than nothing.
Walking around Hyehwa this past weekend I saw lots of one toe examples - on young women.
Many used bright colors or even neon polish, and they wore shoes that showed all of their toes… and that only brought MORE attention to their ONE toe. I still don’t quite understand this trend, so feel free to add your suggestions as to why women do this in the comments.

Man, we talked about this in April, wondering when the heck rain boots would get to Korea and women stop wearing sandals and walking in puddles. I guess it’s news now, since we’ve been seeing rain boots around lately. Still the rule is, if you’re hearing about it on the news, it’s already old news. Stick with FMS and you’ll find out early, ladies!
I saw these casual wedges a couple weeks ago in Apkujeong, but then saw something similar 4 times yesterday. I’d say that makes them pretty good candidates for being called an official trend. If you’re into this sort of style, that is.
