Today, I am making an announcement about some changes for this site and my photography. I want to start by saying that this is not going to be bad news at all, and in fact is just a consolidation of my efforts into a more effective venue.
You might have noticed that I have not been posting very frequently lately. This is actually because I have been doing a lot more fashion and studio photography, as opposed to being something signifying a lack of interest in photography overall. And I actually miss the old street style of fashion photography that I started out doing. I’ve been getting a little more work in high fashion and things, and a little bit more media attention. And I have also been working on a big project that is going to bring a lot of this stuff together.
I have been working on starting and what I called a “social network magazine” about Korean fashion and lifestyle. A lot of big things in new connections happened over the last few months, and I now have enough resources and people power tubes put together a proper magazine. We have the connections to interview top Korean designers, to gain access to top Korean runway shows, and have access to just about any fashion event we’d like to get into. Our new magazine, along with me, is backed by a fashion industry newspaper called TINNews (Textile Industry News), some columns from which you might have seen here in the past, when I did freelance street fashion stories for them.
This new magazine, called Yahae! (yahae.tumblr.com), is going to be a place where many writers, both Korean and non-, can come together and write real articles, both short and long, and really produce a lot of content about Korean fashion and lifestyle. It will also be a place for me to explore new kinds of photography, even as I get back to my roots on the street. The more I have others who can cover many other bases, the more free I will feel to return to my roots, and also, if this magazine can become financially sustainable unto itself, I will literally have much that much more time to produce better and more varied photography.
So what does this all really mean? First of all, nothing is going to happen to this site. Inevitably, both the strength and the weakness of this site lies in the fact that it is a blog. As such, it was a great way for me to both begin an experiment in fetish, fashion, and photography. But it has seems to have outgrown both the needs and abilities of its founder – me – as well as even its own name. I think it’s fully run its course as a blog, and it will stay here, untouched and intact as such.
I think I will simply allow this blog to evolve into a different direction naturally, so I won’t place it under the constrictions of any decisions I might make now. As the larger magazine project grows, perhaps this blog will take more shape as an extension of my own identity as a photographer interest interested in what this blog started out being about, which is fetish, photography, fashion, and fun.
What this means in concrete terms is that you should find more of not only my kind of photography over at the Yahae! magazine site, but follow our Twitter (@yahaemag) as well. Basically, what I want my readers to understand is that you will get the same content that you enjoyed for me before, along with other forms of similarly interesting Korean-fashion related content. This is not an ending nor a completely new beginning. Rather, it is a branching out and the refocusing, such that I can bring you more of the contents you like, along with that of others, in a more professional and consistent fashion. Think of this also, perhaps, as an upgrade, to a higher, more professional, more varied level.
Come around to this blog from time to time, but move your eyes and browsers and mobile devices over to a new place, where we hope to build a robust community around Korean fashion and lifestyle, one that you can definitely be sure we’ll have fresh and new content up every day. As for this blog, I am thinking of turning it truly more into a fashion blog, with more behind-the-scenes thoughts and cool, personal takes on the fashion stuff I do at Yahae! We’ll see how it evolves.
All the best of the old will be there, along with all the best of the new stuff we’re developing. Join me and other content producers as we begin work on our new, ambitious project to bring the unique charm of Korean fashion and lifestyle to the larger, outside world.
