그럼 한국 여자모델들이 도대체 왜 카우보이 모자와 썬글래스를 쓰고 있을까? 그 건 보통 링지레이나 비키니랑 쓰는 액세서리인가? 아님 그냥 창피해서 (“결혼 못하게 되면 어떡해?!”) 얼굴을 숨기면서 나와야 되는 건가? 한국이다첫째 사진에서 백인 여자 모델은 자랑스럽게 옷을 보여주고 있는데 진짜 촌스럽게 역시 한국여자 2명은 숨어있는 거네. 봐봐. 1명은 앞모습을 안보여주면서 고개를 숙이고 있고 딴 한국 여자는 옆남자뒤에 있는 거야. 혹시 이런 패션쇼를 본 적이있나요? 창피해서 런웨이에 걸어오면서 옷때문에 자기 얼굴을 못노출하는 모델? 말이 돼!? Levi’s의 새로운 몸짱 랑지레에 런칭 이런바 ‘패션쇼’를 하면서 모델들이 창피하게 나오는 것 — 한국은 아직도 이 만큼 촌스러운 건가 아님 낮은 수준 값이 싼 도우미를 고용한 건가? Levi’s — 내 생각엔 다음에 진짜 모델이나 좀 쓰세요. 시간당 15,000원 몸짱도아닌 도움이 쓰면 티가 나. 진짜 촌스러워. 짜증나, 정말.

So why are the two Korean models wearing stupid leather cowboy hats and sunglasses, like they’re going to rob a convenience store? Is there an Indiana Jones and bikini trend coming? They’re obviously embarrassed about being in the show — “Oh my, God! What if I can’t get married!?” — one of the two Korean  “models” won’t show her front and is hiding her face, while the other one is hiding behind the dude next to her. Yet the foreign model is doing her job just fine. But come on –  have you ever seen a fashion show in which the model is embarrassed to show her face while wearing the clothes? What a joke. Levi’s — next time you put on a show, hire some REAL models to show the clothes, instead of cheap 15,000-per-hour promotion girls from the countryside who are too afraid to show their faces while wearing the clothes you want to promote. Duh.

진짜 이 같은 기사들이 미워요. 너무 무식하다, 진짜.

이 바보같은 경제신문에 나온 기사를 — “레깅스·스키니·부츠..나에게는 모두 먼 나라 얘기?” — 좀 읽으시죠. 아직도 이 잘 못 된 생각을 하나요? 운동하거나 등산하면 다리 넓어지는 것? 그냥 유전이야. 다른 여러 나라에서는 여성선수를 보면 — 특히 육상선수나 수영선수 — 엄청나게 많은 다리 운동하고 다리의 근육도 빵빵한데 특별히 넓지 않잖아요. 만약에 자기 다리는 원하는 것보다 넓으면 too bad이야. 유전은 유전이야! 그냥 다른 스타일하면 되는데 꼭…수술까지? 그리고 꼬 스키니 다리가 있어서 이뻐보이는 것도아니고요.

속보소식: 모든 사람은 같은 옷 스타일에 못 들어간답니다. 오케이? 이런 기사들이 너무 사회적, 정신적으로 무책임한 거예요. 그리고 분명히 선전같은데…아이쉬! 기자님! 돈 얼마 받고 이 글을 쓰신 건가요?

I hate dumbass articles such as this. I just read this article from the Financial News (WTF?) — “Leggings, Skinny Jeans, Boots – Are These Really So Impossible For Me?” (in Korean) — and was surprised to see that people still thought this way. If exercise for women leads to big calves, what’s the solution? Get surgery or botox ‘em down to size! This is what passes as a “health” column article. Forget the fact that female athletes all over the world do strenuous exercise and training without having “radish legs” — perhaps it’s genetics. Genes. Yep. Some people just have big-ass legs. So what’s the solution if you want to get the skinny size-zero jeans or slink around in your sheer tights all winter, with the form-fitting skintight leather boots?

Perhaps try another style? Seems reasonable. Newsflash: not every person in the world is going to be able to fit into some silly trend; and to require surgery to do it, which requires not being able to WALK normally for extended periods of time is a bit much. Skip the skinny jeans, then. You can still have skinny legs and look really, really bad, you know.

Hey, Financial News reporter guy — how much of a kickback did you receive for your thinly-veiled ad for plastic surgery clinics? Nice “journalism” you practice over there.

“High Heels — Don’t Stress Over It”

이번 IBTimes에 나온 토론인데: 신을 것인가 말 것인가. 좋은 것인가 나쁜 것인가. 이러한 얘기들은 낯설지 않은 이야기이다. 오래 전부터 항상 논의되었던 것이니까. 꼭! 찬반을 따지자면 개인적으로 나는 찬성에 가깝다. 하이힐이 좋아서가 아니라, 오히려 거의 신지 않는 편이고 건강(발 포함)이 최고라고 생각하는 사람이지만! 대부분의 여자들은 (스스로는 그렇지 않다고 생각해도) 이뻐보이기 위함의 목적이 ‘남자’에게 있었다. 결국엔 ‘남자’에게 잘보이기 위한 것이다. 나 또한 그렇고.

하이힐 또한 예뻐지기 위한 수단으로 이용됐다고 생각한다. 하지만 근래에 들어서는 하이힐이 무엇을 위한 수단이 아니라 그 자체의 패션으로 자리잡고 있다. 그런 점에서 하이힐을 찬성한다. 신느냐 마느냐 흑백으로 나뉘는 게 아니라 상황에 맞게, 본인이 만족하는 길을 택하면 그 뿐! 다만 한 가지 기억해야 할 점은… 내 몸을 아끼고 사랑하자는 것이다. 진정한 패션리더라면! (타임즈 온라인의 원 영어 원고는)

The subject of high heels and whether they should be worn has come up again, this time in the IBTimes (Korean). This kind of debate certainly isn’t new, and I personally tend to not wear them much. Most women tend to wear them to look “pretty” for men, in the end.

I think heels are worn as a means of looking more attractive, but these days have become more than that, having become items of high fashion. In that sense, I tend to like them. So it isn’t a black-and-white question of whether to wear them or not, but on what occasion, and for one’s own personal satisfaction. And there’s only one thing to remember: you have to remember to treat your body right if you want to call yourself a real fashion leader! (Here’s the original Times Online piece in English.)

Seoul Fashion Week S/S 09 is on, but only partially. According to Coutorture, one of the big fashion blogs out there, the rift between the SFAA and other fashion associations is baaaaack:

Womenswear designers showing include Song Jain, Gee Choon-hee, Lee Young-hee, An Yoon-jung and Cho Sung-kyong. Noticeably absent from Seoul Fashion Week are top designers like Rubina, Lie Sang-bong, Son Jung-wan and the rest of the members of the Seoul Fashion Artists Association (SFAA). A rift between the organizers and the SFAA has once again resulted in the association’s non-participation in the event.

이번에 참가하는 여성 디자이너들은 송자인, 지춘희, 이영희, 안윤정, 그리고 조성경이다. 이번 서울 패션위크에 참여 하지 않는 톱 디자이너라고 불리는 그들은 루비나, 이상봉, 손정완 그리고 SFAA 에 참가하는 다른 멤버들이 있다. 아무래도 주최자측이랑 SFAA의 불화로 인해서 불참하지 않을까 라고 생각이 든다.

This has happened before, and we might expect a separate SFAA show sometime later, which we attended a couple seasons ago. I expect that might be in the dead of winter, like last time. And it seems the love lost between the SFDA¹ and SFAA² will stay just as chilly. Brrr!

전에도 이런 일이 있어서 아마도 SFAA 쇼들이 따로 선보여질 거라고 예상된다. 이번 쇼들도 저번처럼 겨울에 할 계획인 것 같다.

Wow — FMS has officially been covered in the international foreign press, as in a newspaper! We came out in the Japan Times’ piece on the rise of Korean fashion in popularity among the Japanese, with 4 pictures to boot (except why did they cut OFF those fabulous boots in the 3rd pic?)! We’re very happy with the piece, the input offered by our faithful FMS readers (which the the reporter, Shawn, DID read and said he found very helpful, even if he couldn’t use excerpts), and the interview given by fashion diarist Ryuji.
