이 사람을 아나? '비즈 마키'이라고. 1989년도에 이 노래가 나왔을 때 난 고등학생였지. 그때는 랩이란 음악이 아직도 백인 사회한테 제대로 인정을 안받을 때였어. MTV에 의하면 '음악아니다'고 그런 주장이 있었고 대중문화화 되고 있었을 때쯤이였어. 거의 이 비디오를 보려면 '흑인 엔터테인멘트 방송'(Black Entertainment Television)이란 채널 봐야한 거였어.

비즈 마키이는 열정적이고 창조적인 랩 노래를 만든 대단한 가수이며 제일…뭐랄까…못생기면서도 매력적이라고 그런 말이 많은 거야. 그를 싫어하는 사람이 없었지. 착한 이미지이니까. 그리고 우리 10대들이 다 이해하루 수 있는 노래한 거야: "Just a Friend." 그 말은 '그냥 친구'이라고 의미한 거고 어떤 좋아하는 여우같은 여자가 속이는 말이지. 딱 다른 남자랑 걸렸는데 '아. 그 사람이 그냥 친군데…" 거짓말인데도 믿고 싶은 거지, 끝까지. 이 노래에서 그런식으로 여자가 계속 이상한 짓은 하는데 비즈 마키는 계속 믿고 넘어가고 또 걸리고 그런 거야. ㅋㅋ 진짜 이 부분이 나오면 그 아픔을 확 느낄 수 있지:

그 건 메인 포인트이야. 그리고 패션쪽으로 보면은 그 하얀 가발을 쓰면서 모르자트처럼 피아노 치는 모습이…ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 진짜 사랑하는 모습이야. 이 비디오 보면 아무리 어른 생활에서 어려움이 있더라도 바로 웃고 힘을 주는 장면이야. 특히 피아노짜리에서 확 일어나고 연정적으로 노래를 부를 때. 함 보세요. ㅋ

Back in the days when rap wasn't considered "real music" and still wasn't allowed to be played on MTV, Biz Markie was already the MAN to those of us in high school and trying to catch the new videos on BET's "Rap City" with that atrocious host whose name I can't remember. But the videos were good, and Biz Markie's song is one I remember channeling the hormone-charged emotions of my generation.

"Oh baby, yoooooou!" is a chant that everyone my age and 10 years in either direction knows as a part of their emotional DNA, and brings forth true, blue emotion from back when we were younger, fresher, and much less jaded than we are now.

And who remembered Biz Markie as so fashionable? Looking at the video now, it's apparent that he or someone had a strong sense of style – the Mozart getup, white wig, and piano to highlight that simplistic but addictive piano hook in the song was sheer genius.

And Biz's sage advice is as wise now as it seemed then: "Don't ever talk to a girl who says she just 'has a friend.'" Or many "friends." Hehe.

샤피로 사장은 미국의 현충일(메모리얼 데이)인 지난 5월 28일 개점한 이래 영 업이 순조로우며 최근 하루 저녁에는 28켤레를 팔기도 했다고 소개하고 "앞으로 나 이트클럽에서 술을 주문하는 대신에 신발을 주문할 수 있게 될 것"이라고 기염을 토 했다.

WHEN she arrived at the White House Night Club here on a recent Saturday night, Danielle Bory was wearing lacy black stilettos. As she danced, her heels slipped on the wooden floor.

“I almost fell,” she said.

But the club, filled with 1,800 patrons, was hopping. The rapper Flavor Flav was onstage. Ms. Bory, 21, a student from North Babylon, wanted to keep dancing.

So she went shopping. At the Hampton Shoe Vixen, a women’s shoe store inside the club, she tried on a pair of flat silver metallic sandals.

“It’s a lot more comfortable,” Ms. Bory said, as she bought the $40 sandals and headed back onto the dance floor. “They have rubber soles on the bottom, so I should be fine.”

The 45,000-square-foot club, formerly the Canoe Place Inn, a nightspot on the Shinnecock Canal, dates to 1707 and was once a speakeasy. Recently renovated, it has three dance floors, including an outdoor patio where a reggae band often performs. The shops — the shoe store, a lingerie boutique and a novelty boutique stocked with fitted T-shirts, tank tops, lip balm, fragrances and condoms emblazoned with the club’s logo — opened on Memorial Day weekend.

“You can only take so much music and dancing,” said Vic Latino, 32, a co-owner of the club and a disc jockey on XM satellite radio. “We need to give people eye candy.”

Todd Shapiro, 42, the owner of the shoe boutique, an offshoot of the Hampton Shoe Vixen in East Quogue, came up with the idea for the store after going out with a woman who broke a stiletto heel.

“She said, ‘I have to go home,’ ” he recalled. “I said, ‘The date’s still young.’ ”

Mr. Shapiro, who also owns a Garden City-based public relations company, is hoping to open shoe stores in nightclubs nationwide.

Today, I want to talk about the "Sassy Slap" walk, native only to Korea, which involves equal parts being too bothered to actually properly put on the strap of your slingback heels, and seeming to want to walk with the somewhat rude, somewhat sassy "slap-slap" of the shoes against the soles of the feet.

보통 내가 '건방진 굽소리' 봤을 때는 거의 값이 싼 구두와 아주 짧은 치마를 입고 다니는 여자였더라고요. 약간 야한 분위기이란 말이예요. 치마가 짧을 수록 '건방진 굽소리'를 들릴 수 있는 거네요. 아니면 아줌마였다. 많은 그렇게 다니는 사람들이 막 껍을 씁은 것도 같고요. 그래도 웬지 그런 여성들이 내 주목을 끌린 것도하고. 흠.

You'll see the "Sassy Slap" a lot in younger girls wearing cheaper shoes and short skirts. Although one might say there's unusual about it, I doubt any young lady would go "strap-o-sass" to visit an elderly relative or meet one's in-laws for the first time while popping gum, which often goes along with not completely putting on one's shoes. But I must admit that, done right, the strap-o-sass can be kinda hot.

한국에서만 그런 '건방진 굽소리'를 봤어요. 미국에서는 거의 본적이 없고 일본에서도 많이 못 봤네요. 모든 여자가 하는 것아니지만 꼭 그렇게 다니는 여자는 있어요. 좀 섹시하면서도 촌스럽기도 하고 어떻게 보면 참 한국스럽네요. 나름대로 매력적이고. 개인적으로 일본의 특별한 걸음은 - 귀여운 척하는 "안장다리" - 그 것보다 '건방진 굽소리'는 훨씬 더나아요.

Going along with her "Sassy Slap" is the kind of over-feminine strut that you get with women who really like to wear high heels. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of a step, sway, let-the-weight-settle, repeat; it also involves stepping down deliberately heel-first, enjoying each step in the strut. Usually, this is done with the toes pointed outward; if you've ever hung out with professional dancers, they often walk this way, with the feet out and relaxed. It's not the cutesy gait that goes along with stepping toe-first and walking pigeon-toed that a lot of Japanese women do, along with the high heel uninitiated.
