Here’s something from the Pusan International Film Festival. There were some interesting pieces but one in particular that stood out like a sore thumb was Lee Hwa-Sun.

요즘 한국에 여러 이슈들로 인하여 부산국제영화제가 빛을 바라지 못해서 아쉬운 점이 있지만 레드 카펫을 밟은 스타들이 참여해서 어느정도 잘 치뤄진 것 같다. 그중에서 정말 안타깝게 튀었던 스타중에 한명이 바로 이화선이다.

That thing looks as if she ripped it off from the wall from some illegal brothel run by the mafia. At least Scarlet O’ Hara ripped off her curtains for a reason because it was a time of war. What the hell was hers?

정말 헛구역질 나오게 만드는 의상을 입힌 코디가 난 이해가 안 간다. 무슨 불법 성매매 영업하는 곳에서만 볼수 있을 듯한 벽지로 만든 의상 같다. 바람과 함께 살아지다에 스칼렛 오하라는 전쟁 때문에 어쩔수 없이 커튼으로 옷을 만들었다 쳐도 그녀의 이유는 뭔지?

As for the best dressed, it had to be Jung Ryeo-Won. She happens to be one of my favorite actresses but that’s not the reason she’s up here. She really experiments with style and knows what’s best for her. She made a daring move by choosing a color that no other actress has attempted. I applaud her for that!

그 반면에 정려원이 입은 드레스는 그야말로 재대로인 것 같다. 대담한 색상 선택과 실루엣이 너무 예쁘다. 그녀의 스타일링은 항상 기대된다. 그녀 처럼 마른 걸들은 저런 엠파이어 스타일에 벨트 디테일 같은게 있는 드레스를 입으면 마른 체형을 커버 할수 있어서 더욱 더 예뻐 보인다.

(From FMS) We covered the Wonder Girls’ interesting style concepts before and “nostalgia marketing,” hated on them a bit for their bad-but-catchy music, and with the recent picture and their wondrous color coordination, they’re back in the loveworthy box again. FMS가 말하기에 이번에 3집으로 돌아온 원더걸스에 컨셉이 맘에든다고 생각한다 면서 나에게도 어떠냐고 묻기에 좋은 시도라고 생각한다. 여태까지 걸그룹들에 컨셉은 항상 큐트나 섹시로 몰고 갔지만 드림걸스의 복고적인 느낌들이 나는 의상들을 보니까 신선하다.

My take on their outfits? They look great in music videos and when they’re on stage but they’re definitely not red carpet material. It’s not like the Destiny’s Child wore their Survivor costumes at movie premieres.

조금 실험적인 컨텐츠를 올려본는 건데 조금 나이가 있는 연예인들의 몇 컷을 보면 이쁜 정장 패션을 볼 수 있어요. 진짜 재밌는 건 이 패션들이 서울의 동네 어디서나 비슷한 룩을 볼 수 있을 것같아요. 왜냐하면 많은 다른 나라보다 일반사람들도 정장이나 패셔니스타 모드로 돌아다니니까요.

Just as an experimental piece of content, here are few shots of stars who are on the slightly older side, and more formal. What strikes me is how not so different they are from what you could see on any given day in a major Seoul neighborhood.

이런 주장이 말이 되나? 뉴스엔에 나온 기사인데 서인영이 ‘성형수술 인정하지만 전신성형 절대 아냐’고 말했네요. 오호! 네에에. 만약에 분리하려면 원래 성형수술을 했다 안했다고 중요한 차이 있었는데 이젠 진짜 성형수술이 어디서나 누구나 다 하는 한국사회에서만 이런 주장이 가능하네요. 얼굴이 괜찮고. 몸을 하면 뭐, 비윤리적인가? 그 사람이 자신이 없는 건가? 뭐가 달라요, 진짜? 원래 성형수술에 대해 비판적으로 얘기하려면 사실 근본적으로 성형수술이 왠지 안좋다고 생각하는 의미잖아요. 뭐 하느님한테서 받은 몸을 바뀌거나 페미니스트로서 여성한테 압박을 준다고 생각하거나 심리학적으로 따지면 그런 방법으로 자신감을 생기는 것 아니라고 생각하는 거자잖아요.

‘했다 안했다’는 건 중요한 거죠. 뭐 술 마시는 것처럼. 술에 대해서 비판적으로 얘기하려면 ‘마셨다 안마셨다”는 걸 따지는 거죠. 근데 벌써 윤리적 위반 했다면서 ‘음주운전을 했는데 누구를 안죽였다”고 하는 말이 안 돼죠. ㅋㅋㅋ 성형수술이 한국에서 이만큼 일반화가 됐나요? “했다 안했다”는 걸 안 때지고 “얼굴만 몸말고”는 의미가 있나요? 휴. 이렇게 대답을 하는 거면 잘라리 진짜 자신있게: ‘그래. 했다. 어쩔래? 신경 꺼!’ 그렇게 하든지. 아니면 아에 대답하지말든지. 근데 이렇게 설명하는 건…좀…미안하지만…바보스러워요. 이런 논리가 비논리적인 거니까요.

Is this really for real? For real, really? From Newsen comes this story, in which ever-popular star Seo In-yeong now defends herself from accusations that she has indeed gotten plastic surgery by actually saying, “I admit I’ve had plastic surgery on my face, but never my body!” Ooooook. Riiiiiight. Has plastic surgery in Korea become so ubiquitous that now, instead of the dividing line being between whether you did or didn’t have it (if you’re going to bother to criticize in the first place), it’s now “just on the face, not the body.” Come on.

I mean, if one assumes that drinking alcohol is in itself bad (which is why anyone would criticize it, right), the dividing line would be whether or not you do, or do not, drink alcohol. But once you’ve crossed that line, that’s like saying, “Yeah, well, I’m a drunk, but at least I didn’t kill anyone driving.” So the line has shifted from “if” to “how much.” In-yeong — what’s the point of even defending yourself if you’re going to say silly things like this? Either say, “Yeah, I got it, and screw you — it’s none of your business” or just don’t talk about it. But this kind of argument just kind of makes you look…well, stupid. Because it doesn’t make any sense.

Steve의 명성답게 이 날 많은 연예인과 모델, 패션디자이너의 모습도 볼 수 있었는데 그 중 단연 최고는 모델 배정남씨였다.

Although it was an honor to see all kinds of models and fashion designers that day because of Steve, I was most happy to meet model Bae Jung-nam.

리듬에 몸을 맡긴 그를 발견! FMS의 사진 요청에 흔쾌히 수락해 주었고, (사실 묻지도 않고 카메라를 들이대었는데 그의 특유의 찡그린 멋스런 표정과 포즈로 먼저 맞아주었다.) 같이 사진을 찍을 수 있는 영광이 야호 꺅!

We bumped into each other on the dance floor, and happily agreed to pose for FMS’s camera (actually, before we even asked him, he had already struck a manly-man pose with a funny expression). It was an honor to get a shot with him!

We also got to meet the famous runway model Andrew Gordon. (Cute!)

오사카에서 지친몸을 이끌고 와서 끝내주는 무대를 보여준 Steve와 수많은 멋쟁이들 그리고 FMS와 함께해서 12일 새벽까지 나는 무한에너지로 흥겹게 즐길 수 있었다.

I got a recharge in energy from watching Steve, who must have been exhausted by his touring and a flight in from Osaka, along with FMS and the many fashionable people we partied with all through the night of the 12th.

덕분에 지금 근육통으로 고생하고 있다. 하하하. 담에 또 신나는 파티에서 만나요!!

Thanks to that party, my legs are killing me. Hehe. But regardless, we’ll see each other at the next party!
