오늘부터 금요일까지는 대락패션위크이다! 서울의 최고한 패션 대학과 학과에서 나오는 학생들의 졸업작품들이며 보통 유명한 패션쇼들보다 무대에서 나오는 디자인들이 더 화려하고 특이하네요. 여기는 한국말로 되어있는 링크이고 시간표도 나와요. 이번 학기는 SETEC에서 진행하는 거네요. 3호선의 학여울역에서.

[From previous University Fashion Week / 전 대학패션위크]

From TODAY until Friday (9/9 to 9/11), this is actually one of the best shows of the year, with the students from Seoul’s top fashion universities showing their graduation creations. They are usually much more adventurous and risk-taking than the established designers you see in large shows, so this show is definitely one of the most fun to look at. This semester, it’s being held at the SETEC convention center down at 학여울 Station, way down on the #3 orange line. Here’s the link in Korean — normally, you could skip it, but it has a timetable of which schools are showing, on which days. And by the way, our fashion diarist Ryuji is graduating and showing her clothes at noon on Friday. You go, girl!

내일 TV에 나온다! 금요일 21날 6시50분에 MBC의 외인구단에 나온다. 연예인들 김구라, 한성주, 이병진, 한영은 다 선생님으로 나오고 지상렬은 우리 교장으로 나온다. 우리 외국인 10명이고 반 두개 나눠서 한다. 한국문화 같은 걸 배우고 오락쇼 같은걸도 한다. 내 영어 이름 피터로 나온다.

내가 입는 옷을 스웨터조끼밖에 다 내건데 첫회 잘되고 이 프로그렘 계속 하면 옷을 좀 더 해준다고 그랬다.

I’m going to be on TV! Tomorrow, Friday the 21st I’ll be in the pilot episode of WaeinGudan on MBC at 6:50pm. The show features celebrities Kim Gura, Han Seongju, Lee Byungjin and Han Yeong as teachers and Ji Sangnyeol as principal. I’m one of 10 foreigners divided up into 2 classes. We are schooled in Korean culture and then we battle it out in silly quiz games. I use my English name, Peter, on the show.

The clothes I wore on the show are all mine except for the black sweater vest. If the show does well and gets picked up, they said they would be handling wardrobe more.

Wow — FMS has officially been covered in the international foreign press, as in a newspaper! We came out in the Japan Times’ piece on the rise of Korean fashion in popularity among the Japanese, with 4 pictures to boot (except why did they cut OFF those fabulous boots in the 3rd pic?)! We’re very happy with the piece, the input offered by our faithful FMS readers (which the the reporter, Shawn, DID read and said he found very helpful, even if he couldn’t use excerpts), and the interview given by fashion diarist Ryuji. 비오는 날 싸구려 부츠는 장화로 이용된다.

On this rainy day, I wore some old boots as raingear.

습기로 인해 목덜미에 척척 달라붙는 인조 머리카락에도 나름 정이 든다. “Things we say” 공연을 보러 갔다가 얻은 스티커를 역시나 제법 싼 클러치에 붙였다.(세일때 런던 h&m). 아마도 밴드의 누군가의 attitude가 제법 귀여워서 기억하려고 붙인걸꺼다.

Even the hair extensions sticking to the back of my neck because of the humidity has its own kind of charm. Naturally, I put the sticker I got from the “Things we say” concert I went to on my clutch purse, which I bought in London on sale. Probably everyone did something similar to remember the attitude of the band members, who whose cuteness was simply awesome.

진짜 뻔한 홍보용 파티들은 질색이야. 지겨우니까아. 어, 근데 나도 홍보대행사에서 일하고 있단 사실.

I really can’t stand these lame publicity parties. I’m just sick of them. But the fact remains that I do work for a public relations firm.

나도 패션 다이어리에 우리 회사에서 홍보하는 책을 들고 찍은 사진을 올릴까 생각하다 관뒀어. 왜? 그 뻔한 목적성에 사람들이 지겨울테니까아-

I have thought about maybe taking pictures of me holding one of our promotional books and including it in my fashion diary, but I decided against it. Why? Because people would get sick of such a lame way of mixing work and play.

재밌어. 멀어서 좀처럼 가지 않던 청담동까지 간 날. 취해서 얼굴은 상기되고 정신은 없고. 그 틈을 타 약간의 요부 컨셉

That’s fun. This was the day I went to Cheongdam, where I don’t often go because it’s so far. I’m drunk, so my face is red and I’m totally out of it. In this little space, I decided to get into the role of vixen.

한계에 부딫히다. 붙임머리가 너무 더워서 때어버렸다. 아깝지만 100배 정도는 더 시원해졌으니 괜찮아. 그나저나,명동에 갔다가 흥미로운 이론 발견. 언제나 명동에 있는 아저씨 ‘예수천국 불신지옥’ 피켓을 들고 젊은이들 사이를 누빈다.

I’ve reached my limit here. I couldn’t stand wearing my hair extensions because it was just so hot. Even though it was a shame to take them out, it was also like 100 times cooler. When I went down to Myeongdong, I discovered a new theory. There’s always some old guy in Myeongdong weaving in and between young people, holding a sign saying “Heaven through Jesus, non-believers to Hell.”

하하하. 나는 역시 지옥에 떨어지는걸까? 호피 무늬 옷을 입고 맹수 처럼……원초적으로…..불경스럽게.

Hehehe. Of course, I’m gonna go to Hell, then, right? I’m wearing a tiger skin top, like some wild beast from Eden. It’s pretty blasphemous, I guess.

휴가를 맞아 수영장으로 태닝을 갔다. 거의 10년만에 간 수영장.

Now that vacation time had come, I went to the pool to tan. I hadn’t been to this pool in about 10 years.

이틀 연속으로 해밀턴으로 갔다. 형광색 수영복과 약간 에스닉한 수영복을 이틀간 번갈아 입었다.

We kept going to the Hamilton Hotel pool for two days. I alternated between a neon and a somewhat ethnic-looking swimsuit.

둘다 한벌에 만원씩 주고 산 것. 형광색으로 야자나무가 그려져 있는 수영복은 왠지 휴가지 레스토랑의 싸구려 벽화같아 재밌어. 아침에 갔는데도 선 배드는 꽉 차서 바닥 신세. 그래도 너무 간만에 간 수영장이라 갑자기 초등학생 모드로 전환되었다.

I bought them together for $10 apiece. The swimsuit covered with the neon palm trees seems like the wall painting hung in a bad restaurant, but somehow apropos for vacation. We went in the morning, but the sunbeds were already all out with no room for more. But because it had been so long since I’d been to a swimming pool, I just went into elementary school girl mode automatically.

너무 무서워! / The water’s scary!

물에 들어가서 엄청 첨벙거리고 싶었지만 수영 못함. 수영장물은 꼭 예전 태안 같았으니 이유는 태닝 오일 바른 사람들이 몸에 오일을 안 닦고 물에 들어가서….너무들 하잖아!!! (나도 태닝 오일 안 닦고 들어갔어)

I thought I wanted to get in the water and splash around, but I can’t swim. The pool looked liked blue and tranquil, the way you always expect, but the reason is that no one wipes off their tanning oil before they get in the pool! You shouldn’t do that! (Although I didn’t take mine off before getting in, either).

짧았던 여름 휴가. 아직 덥긴 해도 이제 가을이 오고 있는것 같다. 이젠 낮에도 사진을 찍어두어야겠다는 생각이 든다. 요즘 내가 하는 일은 대형 산부인과의 임산부들을 위한 태교 교실 준비. 내가 임산부들을 위해 행사를 기획하고 일하는 모습 누가 상상이나 하겠어. 회사가 홍대에 있긴 하지만 일단 나도 회사원은 회사원.

낮과 밤이 다른 여자로 등장! 재밌을까? 다음엔 보다 충실한 가을의 기록들을 남겨둬야지. 참 나를 알아봐주고 인사해준 사람들 고마워요. 하하. 어색하게 인사해서 미안해요. FMS의 말처럼 저 보기보다 약간 shy하답니다.

My short summer break. Even though it’s still warm, it seems like fall is coming. And I’m thinking I should take more pictures during the day. The work I’m doing these days has to do with preparing a prenatal training class for pregnant women and nursing mothers in a large Ob/Gyn department. Who would ever think that I’d be planning events in an area like this? Even though my company is in Hongdae, I’m still an employee, after all. Work is work.

Here seems to be the entrance of a new character, different by night and day! That should be fun, no? From now on, I’ve gotta be better about keeping diary entries in the fall. Oh, and I want to thank the people who’ve been recognizing me and introducing themselves. Hee hee. I apologize for being so awkward when I meet you — as FMS says, I think I’m shyer than I appear.
