오는 5월 11일 Groove Armada Full Live 공연의 Special Guest로 출연 예정이었던 Cut Chemist. This is DJ Aaron doing his best at a little drag show at Club Cargo in Hongdae, which hosted the "Hidden" party, and was absolutely fabulous!

장소는 2주전 홍대 놀이터 옆 Club Cargo. 파티 브랜드 Rainbow가 Club Cargo와 함께 처음으로 홍대에서 펼친 드랙퀸 "Hidden" party는 만족 스러웠다. 이번주는 Club Via에서 라고 하는데 이것도 볼만할 듯. 처음 가 본 카고는 사람들도 분위기도 정말 쿨했어요. 근데 장소 때문에 재밌었나? 아니면 Hidden이란 파티로 온 사람들때문였나요? 물론 둘다이죠. 클럽도 놀기에 좋고 물론 사람들도 흥미로운 사람들였죠.

The organizers of the "Hidden" party, which took place two weekends ago, are hosting another party called "Rainbow" again this Saturday, although this time it will be at Club Via in Hongdae. Since I haven't been to Club Via, I can't tell you much about it. The "Hidden" people seemed to throw a good party, though Club Cargo was the host. Which was more important to the fun? Neither, I think. The club is cool, and the people were cool.

Here, even the bartenders and staff feel the funk, because the cozy atmosphere really makes it a fun and safe place to dance and just have a good time.

드랙쇼 뒤에 또 빠질 수 없었던 게 고고보이들. 무대 앞은 그야말로 인산인해.

And of course, there's the drag show, along with the male gogo dancers who are the main attraction!

댁 규수가 애타게 님을 기다리는 그녀…아니죠! 그녀는…진짜 잘 노는 애이네! 너무나 자아알…?!

So that's the Chosun maiden, then! She really knows how to work the crowd!

그리고 옆에 도와주는 '고고댄서'들도 보기 좋은 것같아. 특히 앞줄에 있는 여자들한테! 그래도 무대웨이 있는 액션보다 더 재밌는 사람들도 있었죠. 춤추고, 친절하게 서로 얘기도하고, 너무 편하고 진짜 쿨하게 놀던 사람들이였네요.

And so do her gogo dancer helpers! Still, there was a lot more to the party than just the show. Any party is made fun by the people who attend it, and these were some of the coolest folks I'd seen.

이 친구의 태도도 최고! ㅋㅋ 얘기해보니까 이 친구도 파티 프로모션하는 일도하니까 또 다른 파티에 대해 알게 된 거예요. 진짜 흥미로운 사람들이 사방에 막 나타나고 있었어요!

Ditto for her attitude! As it turned out, this young lady is also a party promoter, and is also having another party this weekend, which you can learn more about here. There was so much going on and  interesting folks were coming out of everywhere, it seemed.

한국사회에 여러 공간들 중에는 바로 여기가 진짜 인종, 국적, 성차별, 그리고 동성애혐오증업없이 편한 마음으로 놀 수 있는 데예요. 다 황영한 느낌이 나는 것처럼. 근데 단일 한가지 편견이 있네요. 그 건 바로 좁은 생각, 또 좁은 마음이 있는 사람이다. 그런 사람들이 물론 필요도 없고 일단 안올 거아니야, 그쵸? ㅋㅋㅋ 진짜 누구나 남의 쿨한 속마음을 볼 수 있다면 그 사람은 바로 진짜 쿨한 거지.

This is one of the few places in society where, whatever your race, nationality, gender, or sexual orientation, everyone is welcome. The only discrimination that goes on here against people with narrow minds and cold hearts. Indeed, those with the ability to see the true cool in people can be called truly "cool."

그리고 진짜로 쿨한 사람들이 쿨한사람들이랑 낄리끼리 하는 거네! 작년 여름에 밑에 툴한 지나가는 죽이는 문신이 있는 여자를 보고 찍었는데 그녀는 너무 빨리 걸어가고 있었기 때문에 금방 없어졌죠. 근데 이젠 이 클럽에서 봤던이 금방 알아봤죠. 역시. 그때는 홍대에서 봤고 또 보게 된 거지. 난 쿨한 데로 왔으니까 볼 수 있는 가능성이 높은 거죠? 그쵸. (작년의 글을 봐봐요.)

And it seems cool people do stick together! As an avid street fashion photographer, when I saw this very cool woman on the dance floor, I instantly recognized her, since I had shot her in Hongdae the previous summer! (See the post from last year.)

이 건 바로 운면아닌가? 그때는 초상권침해가 될가봐 어굴을 잘랐는데 지금 만나봤으니까 드디어 이 멋진 사실을 우리 독자들에계 알릴 수 있네요. 그리고 그 문신은 진짜 죽인다야. 이 클럽는 이런 사람들을 끌릴 수 있으면 owner가 어떤 분일까요?

But she had walked so fast, we couldn't catch up to her to get her contact information, so we couldn't include her full face on the site. But now, since talking to her, we can! Is this not fate? Or perhaps is it that cool people all tend to hang out together? If the woman with the snake tatoo is any indication, check out the club's owner.

Isn't that what great King Leonidas said before drop kicking the Persian emmisary into the well, unleashing a chorus of killer drum-n-bass beats? Or it could have been the drop kicking of my soul last Friday night, when the mammoth speakers of Club Answer went all biblical on my candy ass? I woke up the next day feeling like I'd been in a fight with a feral black he-wolf, but I did manage to take some shots as I went down.

What is Spektra, you ask? It's a killer party style, one that brings a new level of fun, fresh, and funky to Korea, straight through our Seoul. In short, it's a killer cool party, put on by experienced DJ's and club kids from around the world.

전 우리� 새로운 패션 다�어리스트 Miss Seonja와 함께 청담으로 내려가봤죠. 분위기랑 �럽패션 둘 다 살펴보려구요. 파티는 잘 기��있었고, 비트는 울려 �지고 있었고, 참��들� 화�하게 춤� 출 줄 알�군요~

I went down to Cheongdam with our fashion-diarist-in-training, Miss Seonja, to check out the scene, both for the atmosphere and the club fashion. The party was well-organized, the beats were thumping, and the attendees knew how to get down.

우리는 들어가기� 전� 신선한 멋� �랑하는 무리가 떠나는 걸 봤어요. 미국 대학�들�었는� 통금시간� 맞춰 집� 가기 위해 �� 파티를 떠나 듯 했어요.

We didn't even make it inside before we spotted some fresh flavor packets leaving the scene, ready to be consumed. They were some American college students who seemed like they needed to be home by curfew, so they had to party early and take their leave.

우리는 들어가서 준비를 했죠. 카메�, 비즈니스 카드, 노트�� 챙기고 파티할 준비를 했죠.

Once we made our way inside, we got our bearings, set up our cameras, business cards, and notebook, and got ready to roll.

And the scene was jumping, beats pumping, boodies bumping.

고고 부츠 스타� 웨스턴 부츠랑 그녀� ��한 태� 둘 다 사랑스러웠어요. 그거�다가 파란 바탕� 하얀 별들� 마치 미국 국기를 연�시키는 듯했는� 정� 잘 어울렸죠. �날 밤 그녀� ��� 개��으로 가장 마�� 들었어요.

Loved both the western-boots-as-go-go-boots style and the sassy attitude. That, plus the white stars set in a blue field, reminiscent of an Americana kitsch, made the whole thing work. Her outfit was my personal favorite of the night.

Miss Seonja랑 저는 무리 �� 들어가 춤� 추며 �� 사람들� 찾았어요. 초�빛 불빛� 모든 게 괜찮�� 허�했어요.

Miss Seonja and I got right into the mix, dancing our way around and catching people to snap. The green lasers made everything people did alright.

물론, 어떤 사람들� 후� 달아오르기 위해 레�저들� 필요 없었죠. 분위기는 쿨하고 개방��었어요. 그리고 모�들 �신� 방�대로 추고 싶�대로 춤� 췄죠. 멋진 사람들과 스타�� 위한 �리였죠.

Of course, some people didn't need lasers to get heated up. The mood was cool and open, and everybody got down the way they needed to, the way they wanted. That made for some cool peoples and styles.

바다빛 파란색� 정� 마�� 들군요 멋�� 오빠.

Get…get…your drink on, get, get your drink on. Love the Enya-ocean-blue, dude.

NKotB? ��구요??? 멋졌어요. �날 밤 테마는 “네온과 블랙��었대요. 그리고 �들� 가장 테마를 잘 살려서 �� 받았죠. 테마를 정� 멋지게 소화했죠.

NKotB? Say whuuuut? That was cool. The theme for the night was actually "neon and black" — and they get the prize for best following of instructions, as well as for knocking the theme outta the park. Matching 80's ladies and the New Kids on the Block tee? That is straight PIMP.

방금 그 � 취소할게요. � 분� 정�로 간지났죠. 그리고 그� 여유� �지 마세요. 간지 부리기란 쉽지 않다는 걸 우린 다 배웠잖아요? 멋져요. 모�가 정� 마�� 드네요, 제대로 �히지 않다니… 제가 조금 피곤했나 �요. 좀 쉬어야했죠.

Let me take that back. THIS guy was straight pimpin'. And don't let his ease fool you, since we all have learned that "pimpin' ain't easy." Nice one, dude. Love the hat, too — I was remiss in not getting that on film. I was getting a bit tired, obviously. Had to take a seat.

ExpatJane� �착했어요. 그녀는 하�백씨와 마시�� 바빴어요. 그는 �쪽 세��서 가장 멋진 모�/디��너/예술가/�러버 �요.

ExpatJane had arrived on the scene, and was busy drinking with Ha Sang Beg, who is like the coolest model/designer/artist/clubber this side of the Moon.

� 파티� VJ�� 기��� Sarah는 파티를 계� 가게 했죠. DJ, �연과 Eugene Blake 들� 트렉� 마구 섞으며 달리고 있었죠. �악� 관중� 움�였어요. 제가 사람들� 가질 수 있다고 ��한 것보다 관중� 훨씬 � 많� 댄스 �너지를 발휘했어요. 그리고 신기한 �� 발�했죠. 저는 사람들� 미치는 걸 많� 봤지만 한국 여�가 �럽�서 메� 스피커들 앞�서 마구 �들어대는 건 처� 봤죠.

Sarah, VJ and creative director of the party, was keeping the party going. The DJs, Sonyeon and Eugene Blake, were also in full effect, as they mixed tracks. The music drove the crowd, and they expended more dance energy than I thought humans could hold. And then a funny thing happened. I had seen people going buck wild, but never seen the top come off a Korean girl in a club before, twirling it hard on top of the main speakers.

네, 정� 파티는 최고조 모드� 달했죠.

Yes, this party was in full effect mode.

정� 그날 밤 누구� DJ� 실력� 중요성� 과소�가할 수 없었어요.

One cannot underestimate the importance of the DJs' skills that night. Their shit was majorly together. Tightly wrapped.

파티가 필요한 건 저런 �너지�요. �런 분위기가 정� 진정한 재미를 보게 하죠. 우리는 최고� �럽� 대한 우리� 임무를 다했다고 ��하고 떠나기 전� 몇 개 장� 사진� � �었어요. 근� 우리는 좋� 사진 몇장� � �고 싶었죠.

That's the kind of energy a party needs, the kind of atmosphere that leads to the realest kind of fun. We did get a couple more snaps before we rolled out, but we felt we had done our part for king and club. But we wanted to get just a couple more good shots.

Rrrrrrripped! Now, these are two nice young men with physiques of the Greeks. "This…is…Sparta!" I believe you, dude. It's time for me to do some situps, I think. Where's my gym membership, again? I'm feeling a little inadequate over here… Until the next party, I'll be doing crunches and recharging my batteries — and preparing for the next battle on the dance floor!

이 소식이 new아닐 수 있는데 화려한 컬러는 너무나 많이 볼 수 있어요. 길거리에서 그리고 런웨이에서도 그렇더라고요. 그 걸 보니까 이번 봄부터 화려해질 것같고 그리고 가을, 겨울에 추워질수록 뚜거운 스타킹과 코트 입을 때는 더 화려해질 것같아요. 여름에는 화려한 신발과 미니원피스들이 bright colors으로 나올 듯하네요.

Now, this may not be news to some of by now, but the bright colors are steadily hitting the streets this spring, and if the runway shows were any indication, will be in even stronger effect in the colder months, when tights and bright coats provide stronger colors in addition to warmth.

이번 F/W 2008 서울패션위크의 쇼들 사이에 인터뷰한 아주 화려한 1학년생이랑 조금 얘기 나누었어요. 파란색, 노란색, 하얀색, 그리고 핑크색을 잘 코디하니까 궁금했었거든요.

A well-done and representative case was found in a young lady we interviewed at Seoul Fashion Week F/W/2008, who was coordinating blues, yellows, whites, and pinks.

진짜 잘 아는 것같았어요. 왜냐하면 조금 잘못하면 진짜 이상하게 나올 수 있으니까. 그런 화려한 색깔들을 코디하는 건 불장난같네요. 잘 못 하면 남의 눈이 아프거든요.

She knew what she was doing, since those bright elements are no joke to play with, nor were her blue tights, which were positively blinding.

With colors that bright, you're playing with fire — it's easy to burn yourself and the eyes of those around you. Yet, she was doing a good job.

패션쇼를 다는 사람들 중에 colorful하게 입는 사람들이 많았고 그리고 길거리에서도 많이 볼 수 있ㅇㅓㅆ죠.

We found a lot of colorful people at the show, as well as people on the streets.

아무리 생각해도 역시 한국패션이 그냥 안전하고 재밌없는 흑백만 입는 시대에서 많이 벗어나는 거네요.

Whatever one's preferences, one should note that Korean women are definitely moving away from mere black-and-white.

여기는 패션쇼를 끝나고 지하철에서 만나게 된 화려한 미녀이에요.

Here's a young lady we bumped into on the subway on the way out from one of the week's shows.

개인적으로 많이 좋아하는 찍었던 사진을 생각나게 하네요. 비슷한 blue-white의 컨셉으로 표현된 거죠.

It reminds me of one of the best pictures we took with us from that week, which had a similar blue-and-white theme.

요즘에 파란색, 파스텔, 그리고 네온색깔 들이 많이 눈에 띄는 것같아요. 우리 독자 친구들도 안 그래요?

These days, it seems a lot of blues, pastels, and neon colors seem to be striking my eye. You all noticing the same thing?

그리고 미니원피스와 짧은 자켓을 같이 입는 걸 봤어요. 여기는 같은 드레스, 다른 컨셉.

The same can be said for color minidresses with black or white short jackets. Same dress, different concepts.

조앤에 의하면 이 룩을 대구에서 많이 봤대요. 거기서 완전한 유행이라고요.

Joanne said she noticed a lot of that down in Taegu. I'd like to hear more about this.

역시 런웨이쇼에서도 화려하게 옷은 입으면 진짜 남들보다 눈에 확 띄는 거네요! 흠. 이런 계속 돌아오는 80년대 패션을 생각하면 웬지 Cyndi Lauper의 생각도 나네요.

In the end, colors sure do help you stand out from the crowd, even during a runway show. Wow. Thinking about this continuing 80's trend, I can't help but think of Cyndi Lauper.

This is one of the coolest being set up in a long time. As a new kind of fashion magazine, in a new medium, we know how hard it has been to get respect and access into the often very exclusive and status-conscious fashion world, where reputation and connections can mean everything. Since we're an online magazine, using the blog format as our medium, and with our unusual focus on fashion with street sensibilities, it might have been easy to deny a magazine such as ours access. After all, it wasn't too long ago that even the American fashion media treated bloggers like unwanted stepchildren. Here's a famous case, in which a major fashion blogger saw Anna Wintour sitting along and got an interview, before being rudely stopped in the middle because she "wasn't somebody."

Anna Wintour가 쇼가 끝나고 혼자 할일없이 앉아있었으니 말이에요! 하지만, 이 비디오는 패션 세계가 새로운 류의 미디어 저널리스트들에게 얼마나 냉정하고 의심스러운 눈초리로 바라보는지 보여주죠. 하지만 온라인 매거진이 미국과 유럽에서 꽤 성공하고부터 블로그 형태가 여러 명의 작가들이 시간순서로 내용을 업로드하기에 가장 좋은 방법으로 알려지면서 블로거들은 정당한 대우를 받기 시작했죠. 유명한 온라인 매거진들은 보통 매거진보다 훨씬 더 큰 독자층을 확보하고 있다는 걸 이젠 미국에서 대부분 알아요. 정말 요즘 인터넷에서는 상대적으로 별로 큰 노력 없이 몇 만 명의 독자층을 확보할 수 있어요, 흥미있는 거리만 있다면 말이죠.

It's a legendary video in the American fashion blogosphere, and actually kinda funny. Now, that was a lucky day — Anna Wintour just sitting alone after a show with apparently nothing to do! Yet, the video also shows how hostile and suspicious the fashion world was to new media journalists when online magazines were new. But since online magazines have taken off in the United States and Europe, and the blog format has become known as the best way to allow multiple authors to upload content in chronological order — similar to a paper magazine — bloggers of all types have begun to receive their due respect. Many of the larger online magazines have readerships far larger than many paper magazines nowadays, something that most people have begun to recognize in the West. Indeed, these days, on the Internet, it's not difficult to have a readership in the tens of thousands with relatively little effort as long as you have something interesting to say.

하지만 한국은 미국이 아니에요. 그리고 우리와 같이 커다란 기업이나 유명한 이름의 백이 없는 온라인 매거진들은 여기서 좀 존재감이 없어요-아직은. 그래서 우리는 우리를 입장을 허가해준 서울 패션 위크의 관리자들, 친절하게 도움을 준 스태프들, 그리고 인터뷰에 승낙해준 디자이너들에게 다른 미디어와 같은 대우를 해준 점에 감사의 마음을 표하고 싶습니다. 우리의 스타일도 미디어 형태도 새롭기 때문에 우리를 받아줌으로써 도박을 한 거 알아요. 그리고 그 점에 감사하구요!

But Korea isn't the US. And online magazines such as ours, which isn't backed by a large company or a famous name, really don't exist here — yet. So we would like to thank the Seoul Fashion Week organizers who approved us, the kind staff who helped us, and the designers who agreed to interview with us for treating us the same as any other traditional media, with the same kind of access and respect. Both our content style and media format are new, so we know you took a risk on us. We are grateful that you did.

우리 매거진은 온라인 미디어의 모든 장점들을 대표한다는 점에 자랑스러워요. 우리가 출판할 수 있는 사진의 크기와 질에 제한도 없고, 기사에 오디오와 비디오도 혼합하여 넣을 수도 있고, 전통적인 매거진 보다 더 쉽고 저렴하게 인터넷을 이용하여 다양한 독자들을 확보할 수 있다는 점 말이에요. 우리의 가장 큰 강점은 우리가 유일하게 패션과 트렌드에 관한 정보를 영어로 제공하며 누구든 언제 어디서나 우리의 정보를 공짜로 볼 수 있다는 점이죠.

Our magazine is proud to represent all the strengths of online media, in that there is no limit to the size and quality of photographs we can publish, that audio and video can be integrated into traditional text and photo articles, and that we can reach a completely type of readership through the Internet that would be difficult and expensive for a more traditional magazine to do — one of our main strengths is that we are the only regular source of information on fashion and trends available in English, and anyone can access our content from anywhere in the world for free.

In addition, as an Internet magazine, without a large staff and traditional hierarchy, we can move quickly, explore edgier content, and really interact closely with our readers. Online magazines are where so-called "Web 2.0″ technologies come together into a single, integrated resource — our blog provides the text on the page, Flickr hosts our high-resolution pictures, YouTube and MNcast streams our videos, and iTunes links our podcast, even as Wordpress itself allows our readers, listeners, and viewers to have conversations with each other in almost real-time.

우리는 한국 최초의 진정한 멀티미디어 통합형 온라인 매거진 –"멀티매거진" 임에 자랑스러워요. 정말로 사람들을 위해 무에서 유를 창조해 낸거죠. 우리는 진정으로 "UCC"의 정신을 대표해요. We are proud to be Korea's first truly multimedia-integrated online magazine — a "multi-magazine" — that was started from the ground up, by real people, for real people. We stand for the spirit of true "user-created content" and not the trendy marketing fad of "UCC" that has little of such. We plan to use "UCC" to host regular shows, to create a collection of interviews with Korea's top fashion designers as a resource for those unfamiliar with the Korean fashion industry, and also to link to other interesting multimedia sources available from around the world. So we are extremely grateful that the organizers of Seoul Fashion Week were able to look at our multi-magazine and recognize us for our potential strengths and new kind of media style, rather than merely focus on our obvious weaknesses as a new kind of publication, and a pretty young one at that.

우리 FMS는 새로운 미디어와 전통 미디어는 경쟁자라고 생각하지 않아요. 오히려 서로 보완해주는 역할을 하죠. 우리는 Vogue Korea만큼 완전한 지식, 엄청난 재능, 그리고 강력한 인맥을 가지지 못했어요. 하지만 Vogue Korea는 너무 높은 레벨로 인식되어있고 잘 연결되어 있기 때문에 솔직하고 자유롭게 모든 사람들이 다 공감할 수는 없어요.

We here at FMS believe that new and traditional media aren't in competition with each other, but are actually complementary. We can never do what Vogue Korea does in terms of its sheer knowledge, raw talent, and powerful connections; yet, Vogue Korea is so high-level, respected, and well-connected that it can become difficult to speak frankly, freely, and in a way that everyday people can connect with.

우리는 단순히 그 공백을 조금이나마 좁히고 싶어요. 왜냐면 우리는 그런 게 필요하다고 생각되거든요. 미국에서는 요구가 높았어요, 블로깅과 Web 2.0 기술이 안정된 후에서야 알았지만요. 똑같은 현상이 한국에서도 반복되고 있어요. 한국의 인터넷 사용자들이 블로깅, podcasting, RSS feeds와 같은 Web 2.0 기술에 점점 익숙해지면서 말이에요.

We simply want to bridge the gap a little bit, since we feel there's a need for just that sort of thing. The demand was high in the US, yet we never knew that until blogging and other Web 2.0 technologies had matured, even as everyday people became more used to getting their information through new media along with the traditional ways. The same thing is happening here in Korea, as blogging, podcasting, RSS feeds, and other Web 2.0 technologies become more familiar to Korean Internet users.

마지막으로, 서울 패션 위크의 관리자분들, 스태프분들, 그리고 디자인분들에게 다시 한번 앞서나가서 새로운 미디어가 무엇인지 보여줄 기회를 주심에 진심으로 감사한 마음을 표합니다!

Ha Sang Beg's F/W 2008 show was frickin' cool, of course, but the opening to the show was absolutely badass! So one could say the show was "mechanical," but that would wouldn't be a negative review in this case! What a badass way to kick off a show!
