Although every human being came through the “door of birth,” we must all pass through the “door of finality” someday. Perhaps this is the reason we humans consider so-called “death” the saddest, most painful moment of all. However, designer Im Seon Oc counters with the question “Why does the funeral have to be so heartbreakingly sad?” She also says, “Although we fear death, consciousness is splendid and delightful,” and invokes a theme of a funeral without solemn clothing, and filled with humorous episodes and beauty. If the last time that both the departed and those left behind will spend together is filled with laughter and beauty, this means that there is enough to create a culture of enjoying a “celebration” or a “show,” in the same way that director Dakita Yojiro’s film did in “Goodbye” or Lee is found in Cheong-jun’s novel “The Festival.” Both Yojiro’s film and Lee’s novel share the common element of the unfolding of somewhat paradoxical situations in the face of the recently departed’s death. The fifteen pieces of funeral wear designed by Im Seon Oc are similar to these situations. Although both black and white clothing symbolize the darkness of death, the flip side of this coin can be expressed through humorous masks, flowers, and lace, as well as episodes and laughter from the departed’s life.

Im Seon Oc compares life to “passion in broad daylight” or simply “being busy.” She speaks of all these things being part of the course in the enjoyment of a final, grand “dinner party.” Im Seon Oc extends you a formal invitation to this dinner party, filled with good food and drink, as well as a fashion performance to remember.

이 쇼를 못 봤으면 정말 좋은 기회를 노친 거예요. 진짜 쿨하고 화려하고, 그리고 국립박물관의 열린마당에서 너무 시원한 바람을 부르니까 아주 좋은 장소이었네요. 보기가 너무 젛았어요. 근데 사진작가의 입장에서는 런웨이가 너무 어두웠으니까 촬영이 너무 힘들었어요. 불만하는 이유는 시청이 분명히 많은 돈과신경을 썼는데 이 작은 실수 때문에 모델이 런웨이의 끝에 와서 제일 멋진 포즈 잡으면은 어둡게 나온 거예요. 그래도 전체적으로 보면은 지난 토요일의 행사가 너무 잘 만들었다. 우아한 느낌이 와서요. 그리고 제일 좋았던 점은? 무료였어요! 이 패션쇼를 만든 서울패션협회가 정말 잘했어요!

If you didn’t get to see the show, you kinda missed out. It was pretty cool, colorful, and in a really nice outdoor venue, right there in the cool air of the National Museum in Yongsan. The setup was nice — except for the lack of lighting at the end of the runway, a photographer’s annoyance — but the fashions were colorful, interesting, and well-presented. Quite a classy little event put on by the Seoul Fashion Association. And it was free!

우리 예란지이란 디자이너 [링크: 영어] 친구가 이 쇼에서 나온 거예요. 요즘에 아주 좋은 주의를 받고 있는데 예란지의 첫 비그쇼부터 이 사이트가 처음으로 취재한 거예요. 한국패션과 디자이너들에 대해서 더 알고 싶다면 이번에 우리가 낸 사진집 The Seoul Fashion Report에서도 예란지랑 아주 재밌는 인터뷰도 한 거야.

Our friend, the designer Ye Ranji, was part of the show, and we’re really happy she’s getting so much attention these days. Remember — we were the first to really cover her when she first came out in Seoul Fashion Week a few seasons back! FMS on the scene! And we featured her as a new young designer in our book, The Seoul Fashion Report, too.

전체적으로 보면 이 박물관패션쇼가 정말 대단했어요. 누구나 즐거울 수 있고 고급스럽고 무료로 좋은 엔터테인멘트럽고를 요즘에 찾기 힘든데 바로 지난 토요일에 있일어난 거예요, 진짜. 거예정말 볼만 한 거예요.

Overall, it was a great show, with something for everyone. I hope the Seoul Fashion Association and other organizations continue to put on such shows for the public, because it was really nicely done, free for the entire family, and actually something worth taking time out of your busy schedule to go see.

국립중앙박물관(관장 최광식)과 한국패션협회(회장 원대연)은 오는 8월 29일(토) 19:00 ‘한국 박물관 개관 100주년’을 기념하여 문화체육관광부의 후원으로 “옷에 문화를 입히다”라는 주제를 가지고 『박물관 패션쇼』를 개최한다.

『박물관 패션쇼』는 ‘한국 박물관 개관 100주년’을 기념해 콘텐츠의 보고(寶庫)인 박물관의 다양한 콘텐츠를 산업적으로 활용함은 물론 패션에 활용했을 때의 아름다움과 가치를 국민들에게 보여주기 위해 개최하게 된 것이다. 또한 국립중앙박물관이 소장하고 있는 다양한 콘텐츠를 패션에 접목시킴으로써 한국 패션이 세계 패션시장에서 선진국과 어깨를 나란히 할 수 있는 계기가 되도록 하기위해 마련한 것이다. 이번 패션쇼는 “여명(과거)”, “빛(현재)”, “희망(미래)” 등 3부로 진행될 예정인데, 한국을 대표하는 디자이너들이 고구려 고분벽화, 도자기, 공예품, 민화, 석조물 등 우리 고유의 문화유산으로부터 모티브를 받은 작품들을 선보일 예정이다.

참가 디자이너로는 한국을 대표하는 한복 디자이너 이영희, 신숙영, 이서윤씨가, 양장 디자이너는 예란지, 최지형, 홍혜진씨가 참가한다. 또한 이번 행사에는 박물관 홍보대사인 최수종씨 등 연예인, 오페라 오델로, 아이다, 춘희 등에 출연해 실력을 인정받은 성악가 김남두씨와 안드로이드 로봇 “에버”가 출현해 패션쇼 분위기를 한껏 고조시킬 예정이다.

For those of you interested in clothing and culture, this weekend there’s a “Museum Fashion Show” going on at the National Museum over in Yongsan. The idea is that “culture is worn on clothing” and will take a look at the past, present, and future of representative Korean designs for women. It’s going to be an interesting evening, including a fashion show featuring the designs of Korea’s top names in traditional attire: Lee Young-hee, Shin Suk-yeong, and Lee Seo-yun will be showing that night. And if you don’t know, you betta ask somebody!

That’s Saturday, August 29 from 7PM–10:20 at the National Museum’s open stage area. Take the Korean along with you to be sure: 국립중앙박물관 열린마당.
