Korean Street Fashion Goes to Harvard!

하바드대학교의 디자인 대학원이 ‘팝! 근대패션과 필름의 아시아 신문화’이란 전시회에 참가를 원하니까 우리 사이트를 초대했잖아요? 아시아에서 한 나라씩만 뽑았대요. 한국의 대표가 누구게?! 바로 우리잖아! 왜하필 왜 우리를 선택했겠냐고요? 휴. 그럴 수 있지! 왜냐하면 우리가 좁은 어디서나 되는 스트리트패션아니라 우리는 여러 스타일을 기록도하고 좀 인류학적으로 — 길거리에 있는 그대로 — 많이 기록하니까 했나봐요. 우리 찍은 사진들이 몇 10장정도 전시할 거래요. 아싸! 전시회는 21일날 하바드에서 하는데 물론 나도 못가는 거죠. 한국에서 사니까! 그래도 내 마음이 거기 참석하는 거죠. 참. 이젠 나 ‘하바드에서 나왔다’고 해도 되나? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

As you know, our site has been selected by the Harvard Design School to participate in their “Pop! Contemporary Fashion and Film Subcultures in Asia” exhibit, with dozens of our photographs set to display. Why the heck would they invite our site to participate, you ask? Hey! Why so surprised? Anyway, they said they only picked one site per country (and yeah, we’re it!), and my hunch is that it’s because we don’t record only a narrow range of fashions that would be, frankly, fashionable anywhere in the world, but take more of an anthropological approach to recording what’s on the street — just as it is, as opposed to how we think it should be. Yeah! That’s some sort of recognition, right? I can’t be there in person, since I’ll be here in Korea, but we’ve sent our electrons over to be reconstituted into print form, so we’ll be there in spirit. And hey — now I can say “I went to Harvard,” right? RIGHT?!
