“Fabulous Fashionistas”
In the Fabulous Fashionistas column, we shoot the most fashionably original people we can find on the streets of Seoul and bring them to you. We don’t choose them because they follow the trends the most closely, nor because they have the most designers labels attached to their bodies, but because they’ve managed to create their own unique style that one can’t simply pass by without wanting to remember.
It’s not just the cool oversized shirt that I like, it’s the hair! It really reminds me of the black female hairstyles from when I was in middle school in the 80′s, when the fashionista sistas used to have both the hair shapes and the levels EXACTLY controlled.
And she said she did her nails herself! Pretty fly to be done at home! Even if you click and blow up the picture to highest resolution, it’s a very good job!
This style is also rocked by star Seo In-yeong. But I think our student fashionista above has a more pronounced curl.

Anyway, this is a sharp, clean-cut look, which comes off as cute as a button. You go, girl!

I love this girl! Her hair reminds me of the mushroom style that Lauryn Hill had. And the fact that she’s not wearing 10 pounds of makeup on her face makes her look so fresh, refreshed, happy, and really really clean. Although her outfit is something I would never wear, it looks really good on her because she just looks so damn happy. My favorite has the be the ‘makeup’ or lack of it. It’s the summer. Lighten up girls!
It’s funny that you mentioned this Black hairstyle from the 80s because I actually think its a bit too retro for a Black chick to try to pull off today, but the Korean girls look adorable and fresh with it.
I dunno, if I saw a Black girl walking down the street with hair like that I’d think she needs to get with the times. I’m Black myself and I would never try it because I know I couldn’t pull it off without looking like a complete 80s throwback. Maybe a small amount of girls could wear it toda, but I don’t think I’m one of them.
I guess sometimes things just look better when you put a different spin on them and no longer work the original way.
The first thing that comes to mind, so fresh and so clean. Definitely throw back retro cool.
That haircut looks horrible. It’s hard to take anybody seriously with that kind of hair.
Hmm, well, I do like it. I personally think it’s pleasantly retro, very cute, and has a clean feel. To each, one’s own.
dig the shirt, not the bob hair though.
ah, ur site has lots of spyware, my pccillin keeps on warning me everytime i visit this site. r these urs spywares?
The bob is kinda ridic, you have to admit. I know exactly what you were talking about with the 80′s black hairstyles (because where I grew up, that didn’t exactly end in the 80′s…) but the bob is like the plague over there in Seoul nowadays innit? This one is kinda overdone with the inturned ends, but yeah….
Her outfit is neither bad nor good, I’d probably have a different opinion of it if I saw it in person. I’m not a big fan of LV monogram. She looks like she is putting in the effort though, so E+? I generally like oversized tops and short, skinny bottoms on Asian girls, (I know a lot of people jump to the thick legs argument here, but I am a gentleman and will only bash you for the things you aren’t born with) so I like the idea of long shirts and playing with proportion. This is kind of a boring iteration of it, but I’d really like to see the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to this style (since inevitably every girl in Korea is doing it right now).
Last year I saw a girl on my regular bus 272 do this look with cuffed skinny pressed trousers with cropped cuffs, a knee-length white button up shirt, and a cropped cafe racer jacket over top, and put all together in her way, it was the cutest thing ever.
There’s no spyware on this site, we don’t know why the warning went up and are in the process of getting it taken off. Essentially there’s a problem with the way google (via stopbadware.com) is doing the analysis. I actually adore this hairstyle. It has been THE hairstyle of the summer, and while I can’t pull it off myself, I think it’s a great look. Personally, I think it’s a great touch that she’s put more curliness into it than most, giving it an even more playful feeling. I also think that her choice of fabrics and proportion play here work really, really well and are not at all what most of the girls are choosing (plaid isn’t really in, and certainly not in that bold color! lumberjack is kindof a weird look, but I like it)
what? plaid is always in, somehow. Tell me otherwise and break my heart. But really, plaid is not offensive IMO.
This is broadcloth, not flannel, so no lumberjack here; this is riding the madras/short-sleeve work shirt thing that’s been going on for the past few years.
Outfit-wise, I think the intention is admirable.
I think the accessorization is a bit over the top and mismatched for the clothes. The nails, I know are less changeable, but they don’t go with this at all but that is minor. If the big shirt weren’t in those particular colors though, I think everything else might’ve clicked better. Conventional, but better with what’s she got on.
Hair? Well, i still stand by my comment earlier, but my reasoning is this. The short bob came with this whole androgynous/delicate modern/’these clothes suddenly make me so sexually confused’ thing that people are going all apeshit for, and it looked great on european models, but let’s be honest with ourselves, it’s a tough haircut for the average girl to look good in. On rail-thin, pallid girls with tiny, beautiful faces, holding hands with other rail-thin, pallid girls with tiny, beautiful faces dressed in Jil Sander head to toe, it looks great. Why Korean faux hipsters have latched onto this style though, I will pretend like I don’t know why.
. . .? dude, I’m from Oregon and even I know better. Plaid is not even always acceptable in the northwest, be it broadcloth or flannel. I barely ever see plaid here except on school uniforms . . .wait, they don’t even use it there. It’s a rare fabric, although gigham check has been in for a bit this spring. Like I said, I think the bold color makes this outfit. I like it with the leggings, since it helps balance the proportion, and I LOVE the shoes. I’m not wild about the bag, but hey, every girl in Seoul has one, and at least it’s big enough to haul stuff around in. I’m not sure what you mean about accessories, since she’s barely wearing any.
This is no faux hipster look – just cool.
Uh-Oh. I’m sorry, but that girl better be careful. I can see an ajumma in the making with that hairstyle. And a shirt that big does NOT look nice. Just my opinion. Why are girls in their 20s looking and acting as old as 40 somethings?
