말이 맞나? 오케이 - 큰 가방, 화려한 소재…벌써 유행하고 있지. 근데 “소년같은 옥스포드화?” 릴리? 아직은 한국에서는 아무 흔적도 못봤는데. 그리고 너무 미국의 작년에 일어난 “유행”아니냐? 2006년이란 말이야…

Are they right? Yeah, the big bags and bright, sparkly materials for shoes and everything else has been with us for a while now – “futurism” – but Oxfords? Hmm. I’ve heard about this in the fashion rags, but haven’t seen any hint of that yet. Oxfords? That’s so Fall 2006!

Waitaminnit!? The 1940’s? Well, that’s exactly what a Korean fashion article in the Hangyeoreh Shinmun said:

디자이너들은 참 변덕도 심하다. 봄이 시작되던 무렵까지만 해도 우주탐험선에 언제라도 몸을 실을 수 있도록 <스타워즈> 등장인물 같은 옷들로 차려입으라고 호들갑을 떨더니 이제는 또 1940년대 여배우들을 본받으라 한다. 여자란 모름지기 사랑밖에 몰라야 한다며 간지러운 프릴 드레스 입기를 강요할 때는 언제고 채 1년도 지나지 않아 정제된 아름다움을 뿜어내는 여자야말로 진정 아름다운 여자라고 말을 바꾼다. 그래서 이번 가을엔 어떻게 해야 한다고? 세계적인 디자이너들이 펼치는 주장은 이렇다….

근데 이건 무슨 신소식아니죠. 미니멀리즘이란 트렌드와 60년대의 ‘마드’(“mod“)이란 트렌드와 계속 유행하고 있어잖아요. 그냥 F/W에 계속 인기 있을 것같아요.

음. 효린씨. 물론 스포츠신문을 ㅂ면서 침을 막 내리고 있는 다른 남자처럼 ‘각선미’ 뭐 그런 걸 좋아하는데…음…조금 바랑스가…음…조금 짧은 편아닌가? 사실 어떤 얌전한 한국식 비키니보다 노출하는 것같은데. 안그넌가요? 근데 신발은 진짜 이쁜데. clutch가방도 갖고 싶은데. ㅋㅋ

OK, girlfriend. Let’s get real. It’s just a little too short, isn’t it? Just a tad? I mean, I technically like those two mini-dresses, and even love your little clutch bag in the second set (although the shoes are blah, but not a major crime); but seriously? Aren’t you worried? Sitting down must require great skill and concentration, and you certainly can’t walk up stairs. And if the wind blew too hard – the world might be able to find out whether you wax or not; and I doubt you’d want that.

I mean, I guess one technically shows more skin wearing a bikini – but no one shows up to big events wearing a bikini. And the irony is that Korean-style “modest” bikinis actually cover up more than your dress does. Now, that’s a scary thing.

A little less ass can mean a lot more class – a good motto and fashion rule of thumb for when you start getting close to exposing your Secret of Joy to the world.

동대문에서 막 다니면서 멋쟁이들 많이 만났지. 근데 이 레게 스타일 커플은 진짜 개성이 있고 아주 unique한 거같았어요. 서울에서 가끔씩 어떤 특별한 문화에 빠져있는 스타일 보일 수 있는데 - 랩, 펑크, J-pop - 근데 많은 그런 사람들이 좀 어슬프게…너무 일부러 따라하려고 하는 것있잖아요.

근데 이 커플은 너무 자연스럽고 대게 쿨한 것같았어요. 그래서 말을 시켰던이 너무 어색함 없이 촬영을 할 수 있었죠.

We were walking around Dongdaemun when we spotted the coolest reggae couple walking our way. You see a lot of young folks here dressed like a sub-culture groupie – rap, punk, or even J-pop – but it often looks superficial or even forced when it’s worn by the wrong person, or too self-consciously. This couple didn’t have that problem, and seemed as natural reggae devoteés as in any other place.

그리고 머리. 레게 스타일에서 제일 중요한 거죠 - 드레드럭. 어떻게 어디서 머리를 했는지 물어봤던이 그 남자분이 ‘내가 직접 했다’고 설명해주셨거든요. 와우. 대단한 일이지. 나같은 경우는 내 머리를 감는 건 귀찮은데. ㅋㅋ 진짜 대단하지오!

And that hair! When I asked who did the extensions, the guy replied that he had done it himself. Now, that’s dedication.

그리고 밋진 디자인이 있는 티셔츠… A t-shirt with a unique design…

마지막으로, 가방과 생들…이 경우엔 서로 매층아니고 그 에스닉깃 가방과 상체, 청/흰색 샌들과 하얀 진스…그렇게 잘 어울려네요. 코디 캡!

Gotta check the bag and shoes…they don’t match each other, but rather the somewhat “ethnic” purse in tandem with her upper body, and the blue/white sandals with the white jeans, obviously. Looking good!

그냥 유행만 따라하는 것아니라 진짜 자기 개성대로 이 ‘레게 스타일’을 만들었지. 물론 순한 레게 스타일아니니까 한국의 일반 멋과 레게 멋과 섞인 거예요. 진짜. 멋을 너무 잘하셨네요!

They don’t seem to be just following a trend, but are also mixing in this reggae look with items and fashion from Korea; and they’ve done a great job at making it natural and fabulous. It just really works, don’t you think?
