Fabulous Fashionistas” 컬럼에서는 서울의 뛰어난 멋쟁이들을 소개해 드립니다. 여기서 “멋”이란 어떠한 유행을 의미하는 것이나 비싼 명품 아이템을 자랑스럽게 가지고 있는 것을 의미하는 것이 아닙니다. 자기 자신의 패션 스타일을 특별히 잘 보여주는 사람, 창조적인 코디로 눈에 확 띄는 사람, 그런 분들을 이 컬럼에서 만나보실 수 있습니다.

In the Fabulous Fashionistas column, we shoot the most fashionably original people we can find on the streets of Seoul and bring them to you. We don’t choose them because they follow the trends the most closely, nor because they have the most designers labels attached to their bodies, but because they’ve managed to create their own unique style that one can’t simply pass by without wanting to remember.

이번에 우리 압구정에 갔는데 길거리에서 이 젊은 멋쟁이 3명을 만나게 됐고 너무 쿨, 캐주얼 스트리트 패션을 대표한 거예요. 윈쪽부터는 대표적인 정장캐쥬얼, 평범캐주얼, 스포티캐쥬얼의 느낌을 딱 잡은 것같아요.

We traveled this time to Apkujeong, where we bumped into three freshly-dressed young ladies who seemed to embody cool, casual street fashion. I guess one could say, looking from left to right, that they were dress, relaxed, and sporty casual.

그리고 제일 재밌는 건 신발들도 분위기 ㄸK라서 코디 잘한 거예요. 특히 오른쪽의 아디다스식 슬리퍼를 좋아했다!

And their interesting shoes, which embodied the same dress, everyday, and sporty casual styles well. The Adidas (real, or no?) slippers are definitely different, and kinda rocked!

그리고 마지막으로 그냐 예쁜 얼짱 사진을 올린 거예요. 기쁠 것같아서요. ㅋㅋ 물어보니까 이 멋쟁이 언니들이 다 대학교 1학년이고 다 모델링 전공을 하고 있대요. 역시, 우리 눈이 정확한 것같네. 키는 다 174cm부터 177까지이고 성격도 아주 활발하네!

And finally, a vanity shot of our three young models, who, when asked a bit about who they are and what they did, told us were first-years in college and majoring in modeling. Well, they had the height (from 174-177 cm) and the chutzpah to do well, we think.

이런 street photography 재밌지 않아요? 요즘에 서울은 1950년때 파리만큼 아주 우와하고 찍을 만한 곳이야. 길거리에서 여러가지 재밌는 요소들이 많아서. 사람들이 그 사실을 좀더 감상했으면 좋겠는데. 아직도 진짜 스트리트 사진작가들이 살고 있다는 것.

These days, Korea is a street and fashion photo heaven, as lively and interesting as Paris in the 1950’s. I wish people would appreciate the art of the real street photographer more here in Korea.

There really is a lot of beauty in the streets.

Why do some women only paint the big toe? I never saw this trend until I came to Korea, so I asked around. Here are some of the answers:

The big toe is big.

You don’t really see the toes.

It’s an older style.

It’s better than nothing.

Walking around Hyehwa this past weekend I saw lots of one toe examples - on young women.

Many used bright colors or even neon polish, and they wore shoes that showed all of their toes… and that only brought MORE attention to their ONE toe. I still don’t quite understand this trend, so feel free to add your suggestions as to why women do this in the comments.

처음에 2주일전 압구정에서 봤는데 역시 어제는 4번 봤네요. 진짜 공식 유행! 그런 신발을 좋아한다면…ㅋㅋ

I saw these casual wedges a couple weeks ago in Apkujeong, but then saw something similar 4 times yesterday. I’d say that makes them pretty good candidates for being called an official trend. If you’re into this sort of style, that is.

I’m calling the police. Where is Pocohontas and why do you have her beach slippers?! What have you done with her? We…want…answers!
