Sports Seoul — this is how you report on the hot pants trend? This is the best you can do? Lazy photographers standing 50 meters back, shooting women with a telephoto lens? There is no honor in such sport. Tsk, Tsk.

이렇게 핫팬츠의 대해서 사진보도 하는 거죠. 신문사진작가인데 이렇게 사진을 제대로 찍을 자신이 없어요? 자신있게! 화이팅!

This is how you report on hot pants. You go out and find someone wearing a pair. This is, of course, assuming that the photographer also “has a pair.”

최근 서울 압구정동. 강남역. 홍대앞. 명동 등 젊음의 거리는 온통 팬티 라인이 보일까 말까 아슬아슬한 핫팬츠 물결이다. 지나가는 젊은 여성들 10명중 6명은 핫팬츠 차림일 만큼 노출 일색이다. 과감한 노출 패션은 최근 4~5년동안 해마다 여름이면 반복되고 있지만 올 여름은 패션 관계자들이 “극에 달했다”고 할만큼 대담해졌다. 이 때문에 남성들은 반색하면서도 시선을 어디에 둬야할지 모르는 상황이 자주 연출되고 있다.

홍대앞 거리에서 가게를 운영하고 있는 김모(33)씨는 “여름이 되면서 여성들의 옷차림이 짧아졌다. 눈이 저절로 가는데 바라보기가 민망할만큼 짧은 경우가 종종 있다”고 말했다.

올여름 노출패션은 그야말로 아찔할 정도. 핫팬츠도 그냥 핫팬츠가 아니라 ‘마이크로 핫팬츠’다. 미니스커트의 길이가 ‘나노 미니스커트’로 최대한 짧아진 것처럼 핫팬츠 역시 더 이상 짧기 어려울 만큼 짧아졌다. 전체 길이가 20~22㎝에 불과하다. 성인 남성의 손으로 쟀을때 한뼘 길이로 엉덩이의 팬티라인이 겨우 가려지는 정도다.

노출패션의 인기 뒤에 자리한 ‘배후세력’은 섹시코드의 여성스타들. 최근 음반을 내고 활동을 재개한 가수 이효리나 서인영. 엄정화 등이 나란히 섹시한 핫팬츠를 입고 나오면서 핫팬츠의 인기를 부채질하고 있다. 특히 서인영이 입고 나온 진소재 하이웨이스트 핫팬츠는 허리선이 높아 하체가 더 길어보이는 효과때문에 금세 패션리더들에게 번졌다.

핫팬츠. 초미니 스커트를 입는 여성들은 대부분 10~20대들이다. 특히 핫팬츠의 경우 미니스커트에 비해 활동성이 좋고 코디하기도 간편한데다 시원해서 여름철 최고 아이템이라고 이구동성으로 말한다.

핫팬츠 차림으로 다리를 시원하게 드러낸 이상아(18)양은 “입었을때 시원하고 코디하기도 간편해 핫팬츠를 즐겨입는다”고 말했다. 전예솔(18)양도 마찬가지. 여름이면 다른 옷으로는 손길이 가지 않을만큼 핫팬츠가 좋다고 말했다.

정현선(19)양은 “너무 짧다고 엄마가 말씀하시지만 그래도 즐겨입는다”며 “올 여름 내내 입을 것 같다”고 말했다.

Recently sighted in Apkujeong. Kangnam Station. The Hongdae front gate. Myeongdong. Or anywhere that young women go these days, you can see hot pants barely cover the panty line that always seems ready to peek out from under, but never do. These days, this kind of exposure has become so common that 6 out of 10 women passing by can be seen in them. This kind of heavy exposure fashion has become quite common in the summer for the last 4-5 years, but this year, fashion experts say, has “reached an extreme.” Because of this, this presents the problem of men enjoying the fad, yet not knowing where to direct their gaze.

A woman named Kim who runs a clothing store says, “Women’s clothes get shorter during the summer. Even though one automatically ends up looking, there are times when it’s so short it’s embarrassing to stare.”

Extreme exposure fashions have indeed become dizzingly short. Hot pants are not mere hots pants, but actually “micro hot pants.” Just like mini-skirt lengths have recently become “nano miniskirts”, it will be difficult for hot pants to get any shorter. The entire length of the pants are nothing more than 20-22cm. That is about the length that an adult man’s hand would cover up if pressed from the hip to the panty line.

The trend has been drawn along with the help of “star power.” The recent music and videos with singer Lee Hyori or Seo In-yeong are good examples. Stars like Uhm Joeng-hwa and others who are uniformly appearing in sexy hot pants are helping to fan the flames of this trend yet higher. Especially with the high-waisted jean hot pants worn by Seo In-yeong, which has the effect of making the hips look higher and the legs look longer, she has become the fashion leader of the day.

Most of those wearing hot pants or micro minis are women in their teens and twenties. This is especially because one is about to be more active in hot pants than a miniskirt, while coordinating is easy, and they are cool, making them the agreed-upon hot fashion item of the summer.

Lee Sang-a, an 18-year-old woman coolly sporting a pair of hot pants, said, “I like to wear hot pants because they’re easy to coordinate and cool.” Another 18-year-old named Jeon Ye-sol said the same. She said that she likes them so much that she doesn’t even think about wearing anything else once the summer comes.

A 19-year-old woman named Jeong Hyeon-seon said, “Even though my mom says it’s too short, I still like to wear them out” and, “This summer, I’m going to wear them non-stop.”

또 코리아헤랄드에서 나왔는데 이번에 썬탠에 대한 기사를 실었어요. 물론 영어로 썼는데 한국사람들이 대부분 피부의 색깔의 이슈를 알잖아요. 원래 하얀 피부를 좋아하는데 요즘에 썬탠을 좀더 보게 되는 거예요. 마지막으로 썬탠이 유행이 됐을 때는 90년때 중반였는데 이젠 다시 보게 된 거네요. 그리고 여름이니까 그러네요! 이 기사를 만딜기 위해 그래서 썬탠이 아주 이쁘게 나온 모델을 동대문의 길거리에서 잡았거든요.

What I think about wearing clothes or so-called fashion is that its gotta be very risky. It should be at times, disquieting; at times, uncomfortable. Sometimes I wear clothes to take them off, or to wear something singularly special. But a lot of the time, I’m lazy and my clothes are trite and conventional. Still, my tattoos define my true and ultimate “fashion.” (Or is this trite, too?)

When I got tattooed, my mind and identity were troubled. Without talking about the quality of the tattoo itself, the design and its meaning that I chose is always a function of my mind. Rather than being pressured by others and constantly worried about what they are thinking, I want to become someone I myself like. This is an issue that is constantly growing more acute for me.

Not too long ago, I became an office worker. I was surprised that a company would take someone like me! (Still, they might fire me yet!) Needless to say, my company has a pretty progressive vibe.

바(bar)가 있어서 나의 환타지를 실현해 보려 올라갔는데 천장이 너무 낮아서 기어다니지 못했다. 코요태 어글리에서처럼 한번 섹시하게 기어보려는 꿈 무산.

Because there’s a bar here, I decided to live out one of my fantasies by going up on it, but because the ceiling was too low, I couldn’t crawl around. My dream of crawling around like in “Coyote Ugly” have been forever vanquished.

일본에서 구입한 원피스에 이태원에서 산 황금색 부츠 사람들이 전부 코스프레 하냐고 놀렸지만, 맞다. 코스프레. 대신, 주인공은 나의 알터에고(alter ego),그녀를 온몸으로 체험하고 있어. 나만의 롤 플레잉 (role playing)

When people look at the dress I bought in Japan and the gold boots I picked up in Itaewon, everyone always teases me by asking if I’m doing cosplay (“costume play”). Yeah, that’s it. Exactly. So I guess the main character is my alter ego having an adventure with my body. I guess that means I’m just role playing. All by myself. Right.

Today’s topic is the push-up bra. It increases volume but because it also gives a pinched-in feeling, it was uncomfortable. It also kinda makes you look like you’ve gained weight. It’s times like this that I begin to have doubt.How skinny do you have to get to be thought of as skinny?

Do I really want to become a “skinny bitch?” Why is it so hard for women to love themselves as they are? People who end up skinny that way do so because of women’s magazines and the mass media. In the end, being healthy is beautiful, right?

남자친구랑 술 마시러 간 날.

The day I went out drinking with my boyfriend.

너무 타투를 노골적으로 쳐다보는 사람 때문에 싸움 날 뻔 했다. 동물원 동물 쳐다보듯이 쳐다보니까 기분 나빴지. 근데 동물은 맞지.

We almost fought because so many people were openly staring at my tattoo. It was hurtful because they were staring at me like an animal at the zoo. But I guess that makes sense.

뱀이니까. 하하.

Because it’s a snake. Hehe.

웃어 넘기는 여유. 모든 것들은 내 선택이었으니까 결과도 받아들여야지. 어서 다양한 문화를 받아들이는 한국이 되어야 나도 편히 사는데…

That’s the reason I just have to laugh. Because this is all my choice, I have to accept the consequences. When Korea can finally accept diversity in the culture, I can live a comfortable life.

남자친구 가슴의 타투 도안은 내가 그린 것. 역시 도안의 참신함이나 완성도보단 의미를 더 중요하게 여긴다. 못 그렸단 말은 아님.;;; 자기 정당화인가? 타투 도안 그리기는 어려워. 핫팬츠가 너무 짧아. 뭐 약간 민망하지만. 이것도 내 선택.ㅎ

I designed the tattoo on my boyfriend’s chest. The meaning is definitely more important than the novelty or perfection of the design. I’m not saying it wasn’t drawn well — or is this a rationalization? It is hard to draw a tattoo. And my hot pants are too short. Even though I’m a little embarrassed by this, it IS my choice.

회사에서 촛불 시위 나간다고해서 신은 운동화 2003년에 밑창부분의 망사 때문에 샀다가 잘 신지도 않았다. 운동화면서 왜 구두 신은거 보다 발이 아픈거냐!

Day of the beef demonstrations.
Because everyone in the office was planning to go to the beef protests, I brought the sneakers I bought back in 2003. But because the bottoms got messed up, I didn’t wear them often. Ironic that wearing these sneakers was more painful than heels!

티셔츠는 촛불 시위에 맞는 문구가 들어갔지. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHUT THE FUCK UP! DOWN WITH M.B야 요즘.. 경찰에게 잡혀가지 않도록 큰 뱅글을 찼다.(방어 무기로서) 플라스틱 STUD가 박힌. 근데 완전 평화시위여서 아무 일 없었음.

I wore a t-shirt with a message that seemed apropos for the demonstration: “Please feel free to shut the fuck up!” Everything’s about “Down with Lee Myung Bak” these days. I wore big bangles so as not to be able to be arrested by the police (defensive weapons) — earrings with plastic studs. But because the demonstration was peaceful, nothing happened.

워커힐.워커힐 파티에 간 날 내 방 살짝 공개. 눈화장에 전력을 기울였으나 파티가서 다 지워짐. 드레스 코드는 블루… 그래서 파란색 브래지어를 선택했지. 나머지는 전부 금색과 살색.

Walker Hill.Here’s a public shot of my room the day I went to the Walker Hill party. Even though I spent all my energy on getting my eye makeup right, it would just came off at the party. The dress code was blue…so I wore a blue bra. Everything else was gold and skin tones.

This is a shot together with my book art and jewelry designer friends. They wanted to do “corpse play” (a Korean kids game in which one lies completely still, like a corpse, for as long as possible, similar to American “staring contests” –FMS) so we did it right there, on the spot.

의도치 않게 베스트 댄서로 뽑히기도 해서 약간 민망. (사람들이 다 속으로 WHAT!?!!!? 그러면서 의아했을거야)

A drunken but refreshing day.
Although it wasn’t my intention at all, I was picked as “best dancer.” I was somewhat embarrassed. (I’m sure people were all thinking to themselves, “WHAT?!?!”)

참! 얼마전에 랩댄서가 신을 법한 구두를 샀다. 얼른 신고 또 나만의 알터에고 창조 놀이를 해야지. 위태로운 상상의 여지를 만들면서 즐기는 것도 패션이잖아.

Right! Not too long ago, I bought some shoes most likely made for lap dancers. I have to hurry up and make a good reason to wear them for play as my alter ego. Fashion is also about making room for and enjoying dangerous imaginings.

얼핏 보기엔 어느 댁 규수가 애타게 님을 기다리는 모습처럼 보일지 모르나…

At first glance, you might think her to be a fair young maiden from the age of Chosun…

This is DJ Aaron doing his best at a little drag show at Club Cargo in Hongdae, which hosted the “Hidden” party, and was absolutely fabulous!

장소는 2주전 홍대 놀이터 옆 Club Cargo. 파티 브랜드 Rainbow가 Club Cargo와 함께 처음으로 홍대에서 펼친 드랙퀸 “Hidden” party는 만족 스러웠다. 이번주는 Club Via에서 라고 하는데 이것도 볼만할 듯. 처음 가 본 카고는 사람들도 분위기도 정말 쿨했어요. 근데 장소 때문에 재밌었나? 아니면 Hidden이란 파티로 온 사람들때문였나요? 물론 둘다이죠. 클럽도 놀기에 좋고 물론 사람들도 흥미로운 사람들였죠.

The organizers of the “Hidden” party, which took place two weekends ago, are hosting another party called “Rainbow” again this Saturday, although this time it will be at Club Via in Hongdae. Since I haven’t been to Club Via, I can’t tell you much about it. The “Hidden” people seemed to throw a good party, though Club Cargo was the host. Which was more important to the fun? Neither, I think. The club is cool, and the people were cool.

Here, even the bartenders and staff feel the funk, because the cozy atmosphere really makes it a fun and safe place to dance and just have a good time.

드랙쇼 뒤에 또 빠질 수 없었던 게 고고보이들. 무대 앞은 그야말로 인산인해.

And of course, there’s the drag show, along with the male gogo dancers who are the main attraction!

댁 규수가 애타게 님을 기다리는 그녀…아니죠! 그녀는…진짜 잘 노는 애이네! 너무나 자아알…?!

So that’s the Chosun maiden, then! She really knows how to work the crowd!

그리고 옆에 도와주는 ‘고고댄서’들도 보기 좋은 것같아. 특히 앞줄에 있는 여자들한테! 그래도 무대웨이 있는 액션보다 더 재밌는 사람들도 있었죠. 춤추고, 친절하게 서로 얘기도하고, 너무 편하고 진짜 쿨하게 놀던 사람들이였네요.

And so do her gogo dancer helpers! Still, there was a lot more to the party than just the show. Any party is made fun by the people who attend it, and these were some of the coolest folks I’d seen.

이 친구의 태도도 최고! ㅋㅋ 얘기해보니까 이 친구도 파티 프로모션하는 일도하니까 또 다른 파티에 대해 알게 된 거예요. 진짜 흥미로운 사람들이 사방에 막 나타나고 있었어요!

Ditto for her attitude! As it turned out, this young lady is also a party promoter, and is also having another party this weekend, which you can learn more about here. There was so much going on and  interesting folks were coming out of everywhere, it seemed.

한국사회에 여러 공간들 중에는 바로 여기가 진짜 인종, 국적, 성차별, 그리고 동성애혐오증업없이 편한 마음으로 놀 수 있는 데예요. 다 황영한 느낌이 나는 것처럼. 근데 단일 한가지 편견이 있네요. 그 건 바로 좁은 생각, 또 좁은 마음이 있는 사람이다. 그런 사람들이 물론 필요도 없고 일단 안올 거아니야, 그쵸? ㅋㅋㅋ 진짜 누구나 남의 쿨한 속마음을 볼 수 있다면 그 사람은 바로 진짜 쿨한 거지.

This is one of the few places in society where, whatever your race, nationality, gender, or sexual orientation, everyone is welcome. The only discrimination that goes on here against people with narrow minds and cold hearts. Indeed, those with the ability to see the true cool in people can be called truly “cool.”

그리고 진짜로 쿨한 사람들이 쿨한사람들이랑 낄리끼리 하는 거네! 작년 여름에 밑에 툴한 지나가는 죽이는 문신이 있는 여자를 보고 찍었는데 그녀는 너무 빨리 걸어가고 있었기 때문에 금방 없어졌죠. 근데 이젠 이 클럽에서 봤던이 금방 알아봤죠. 역시. 그때는 홍대에서 봤고 또 보게 된 거지. 난 쿨한 데로 왔으니까 볼 수 있는 가능성이 높은 거죠? 그쵸. (작년의 글을 봐봐요.)

And it seems cool people do stick together! As an avid street fashion photographer, when I saw this very cool woman on the dance floor, I instantly recognized her, since I had shot her in Hongdae the previous summer! (See the post from last year.)

이 건 바로 운면아닌가? 그때는 초상권침해가 될가봐 어굴을 잘랐는데 지금 만나봤으니까 드디어 이 멋진 사실을 우리 독자들에계 알릴 수 있네요. 그리고 그 문신은 진짜 죽인다야. 이 클럽는 이런 사람들을 끌릴 수 있으면 owner가 어떤 분일까요?

But she had walked so fast, we couldn’t catch up to her to get her contact information, so we couldn’t include her full face on the site. But now, since talking to her, we can! Is this not fate? Or perhaps is it that cool people all tend to hang out together? If the woman with the snake tatoo is any indication, check out the club’s owner.

참. 이렇게 멋쟁이로 나오시면 어떡하냐? Club Cargo에 잘 다니는 멋쟁이 애들이 왜 많이 가는지 느낄 수 있다. 야아아아. 진짜 멋지네요.

With fly and fashionable owners like this, it’s no wonder Club Cargo can so easily draw the cool crowds they do.

I didn’t even know! The Japanese guy from the Halloween party was doing a character called “Hard Gay”, who appears on Japanese TV in funny situations and even helps save people. You can see him in an example below, where he helps save a ramen shop.

For some reason, I didn’t get the feeling they were making fun of gays at all, as much as making a “fish out of water” joke, in which you take a stock character from the gay nightclub scene and make him an everyday superhero who does extremely helpful things like save people’s businesses. To me, that’s brilliant. And it reflects one of the few times you can see a character like this being viewed in a positive (although comedic) light. When will “Hard Gay” come to Korea? Oh, wait! 우리 홍대에 갔는데 진짜 특이한 ‘홍대스러운’ 패션 리더들 찾고 있었어요. 몇 명 찍었는데 갑자기 무슨 런웨이에 내려오는 패션모델처럼 빤짝빤짝 눈에 띈 여자가 지내가고 있는 게예요. 띄어서 말을 걸으러 갔는데 그리고 가지고 왔던 명함들이 다 떨어졌는데도 말을 걸었더니 우리를 바라보고, “아. 사진요? 네, 찍어요!” 재밌게 장난으로 먼저 대답하신 거예요, 우리 묻기 전에. 센스 좀 많이 있는 사람이 같아요.

We were walking through Hongdae looking for something a bit different when we saw a woman clearing a path through the crowds, turning every head that she passed. She was risqué as all heck, but she seemed to be enjoying the attention immensely. When we went to stop her and ask her for a picture, we had barely finished the “Excuse me…” before she had looked us up and down, saw the equipment we had, and interrupted our pitch with, “Oh, you want to take pictures. Go ahead.” She was already two steps ahead of us.

According to Chosun.com, LG pulled an interesting fast one on Netizens with its supposed rollout of a new commercial to feature lithe and lovely Kim Tae Hee promoting its new line of multi-colored phones; but when the commercial rolled out across across “UCC” (YouTube-like sites) channels and people watched the first video, they were greeted with a surprise of Austin Powerian proportions: “It’s a man, man!”

Actually, a male model still in high school, who bears a striking resemblance to Kim Tae Hee, who is, as you might know, not a man, man. Very funny stuff. And a bit confusing.

Er…umm…not that confusing, but…umm…

Is it weird that I think the impersonator is cuter than the original? Now, I’m really confused…

It’s pictures like this that make street photo worth doing, as hard as it is to make ends meet as a job. The picture above is interesting not so much because of the girl, but because of the ajussi to the right who was a bit startled to look up at this pretty risque woman walking by, and is caught looking at just the right moment. Technically, it’s not one of my strongest images (I wish I had caught all of the ajussi’s body, and it would have been nice if the man to the left hadn’t been there), but one worth looking at.

이런 street photography 재밌지 않아요? 요즘에 서울은 1950년때 파리만큼 아주 우와하고 찍을 만한 곳이야. 길거리에서 여러가지 재밌는 요소들이 많아서. 사람들이 그 사실을 좀더 감상했으면 좋겠는데. 아직도 진짜 스트리트 사진작가들이 살고 있다는 것.

These days, Korea is a street and fashion photo heaven, as lively and interesting as Paris in the 1950′s. I wish people would appreciate the art of the real street photographer more here in Korea.

There really is a lot of beauty in the streets.

I spotted Little Miss Fabulous speed-strutting past the park in Hongdae, with minidress, hot pink bag, and tattoo?! Even if it’s fake (as it likely is), it’s still a little piece of fabulous that you don’t see around too often. This isn’t the kind of person one lusts after, or even compares oneself to; she’s just a little piece of the atmosphere that really makes one think, “This is definitely Hongdae!” A flash of beauty to be appreciated, I think.

Here’s a picture after my own heart. It looks like some of the pictures I take here for the site, except unevenly exposed (one subject is in the sun and overexposed, the middle one’s half in and half in shadow, and the other one is mostly in unlit); I know you guys used an 80mm lens or so, but still – say it with me – “Flash is not just for inside; flash is not just for inside; use a flash, use a flash.” Got it? You’ve got Korean singer diva hotties posing for you an smiling, yet the picture is kinda…umm…lame. This commercial and fashion photographer is very offended. 흥!

사실은 미국은 보수적인 나라이라고 많이 해요. 그런데 좀 아닌 부분은 있지오. 우리는 하이힐 그렇게 한국여자처럼 대부분 매일매일 신는 거도아닌데 어께와 가슴을 좀 노출하는 편인데 한국에서는 그렇지 않은데 다리를 노출 많이 하고 아주 넢은 하이힐 어디서나 보일 수 있거든요. 뭔가 옳든지 틀리든지 그런 얘기아니고 그냥 나름대로 다른단 말이예요.

근데 80년대 후반부터 아주 안좋은 개념을 생긴 것같아요: 롱다리/숏다리. 맨날 백인이랑 비교도하고. 그리고 눈이 크고 가슴도 크고 다리 긴 백인 여자가 바로 수준이 된 거예요. 그리고 요새 한국여자들은 너무 많이 그 것에 빠지고 딸아하고 있었어요.

근데 많은 여자들이 너무 생각없이 따라하는 것같아요. 왜냐하면 한국의 전통 몸은 나름대로 자기 매력과 메릿은 있는데. 이 것은 뭘까?

Short Legs Are Beautiful!

많은 여자들의 깜빡하는 건 – 다리는 그냥 길어서 이쁜 것아니예요. 모양, 컨디션은 제일 중요하는데요. 그리고 안좋은 다이트때문에 피부 문제 많이 생기고 한국스러운 “skinny fat” 문제도 생겨요. 이 건 “마른 비만“이라고 하는데 몸은 말랐지만 몸속에는 비만한 거예요. 특히 다이트하고, 지방과 근육을 같이 빠지고, 또 살지고, 다시 또같이 이상한 다이트하고, 등…남은 건 지방밖에 없어요. 진짜 마른 다리인데 물렁물렁 흔들린 걸 한국에서 처음 봤어요. 근데 웬지 말랐을 수록 좋게 보는 것같아요.

뭐, 이쁘다고요? 진짜루? 다시한번 자세히 보지오.
근데 밑에 다리 함 보자. 밉죠? 아르놀드셔워츠네거같죠? 터미네이터 다리아닌가? 무리하게 운동하면 이렇게 될가봐? 흠.

똑같은 다린데 개인적으로는 음…

모오오든 지나간 남자들이 다 몰래 처다보고 있었어요. 완전히 스타. 옷 떠나지만 너무 자신 있게 다닉 있었고 자기 달이의 모양을 강조하면서 자랑하고 있었죠.

이 여자도 건강한 이쁜 다리를 자기 스마트한 옷과 구두로 강조하고 있었죠. 아주 평범한 섹시함을 느낄 수 있었요…일부러 노력도 안해도.

모양. 자기 몸하고 어우린 옷, 구두. 그리고 태도. 자신!

아직도 다리 약해보이는 여자들이 더 좋다고요? 엥? 뭐야. 이 글을 열심히 쓰고 있는데. 설득력은 부족하나봐. 휴. 계속할께요.옛날 50년대에 미국은 아주 답답할 정도로 보소적인 문화를 갖고 있었는데 야하고 변태적인 사진 시리즈으로 나온 Betty Page이란 여자가 나타났어요. 물론 문화적으로 나라가 나리난 것, 이 사진들이 얼마나 예술적인지 그 것도 여기서는 제일 중요한 요점이 아니예요. 이번에 “The Notorious Bettie Page”이란 영화도 나올 건데. 얼마나 대단한지 (지금은 83살이데!) 그 것도 여기서 중요한 거아니예요. 신기한 건 그 여자의 몸/다리는 너무 이쁘고 지금이라도 유명한데 사실 아주 통통한 거예요. 그래도 너무 아름다운 거예요. 안믿다고요? 함 비교해보시죠.

이런 스타일…사실 개인적으로 비교도 아 되는 건데…그리고 베티페이지는 너무 대표적인 수준이 됐으니까 몇 십년동안에 계속 그 스타일대로 나오고 있었어요. 베티페이지와 똑같이.

근데 상상에서는 가슴이 크게 나온 거고 다리 길게 나왔는데 사실은 베티는 숏다리였고 가슴이 그렇게 큰 거아니였어요.

지금 수준으로 보면 셀률라이트도 있었고 좀 뚱뚱한 거예요. 근데 베티는 항상 강점을 강조했어요. 윗다리는 좀 뚱뚱하고 아랫부분은 좀 얇고 발은 아주 작고 귀여워서 아주 높은 하이힐 신으면 (특히 페티쉬 활동하니까 어울리고) 아주 섹시한 라인 생긴 거예요. 페티의 사진을 보면 항상 V-line의 그런 느낌이 있는 거예요. 모든 사진은 아주 sharp하고 삼각형처럼 나온 느낌.

그래서 만화 캐릭터 Bettie Boop이랑 비교하면 그 V-line느낌이 날 수 있죠.

1. 1980년대 후반 생이 아니라면 한국인의 평균 몸매는 미니스커트를 예쁘게 입기 위한 그것은 아니다. 다리가 서양인에 비해 짧은 건 그렇다 쳐도 종아리에 비해 허벅지가 길기 때문에 시원한 맛이 훨씬 덜하다. 이럴 때 무릎까지 튀어나와 있거나 무릎이 갈색으로 변색되어 있으면 더 두드러져 보이므로 무릎 관절 운동과 각질 제거 제품을 발라 무릎을 매끈하게 만들면 훨씬 도움이 된다.

4. 모든 다리에는 황금률이 있다. 스커트가 어디까지 닿을 때 다리가 가장 날씬해 보이는지는 자신이 거울 앞에서 테스트 해보는 게 제일 좋다. 길이를 테스트 한 이후에는 스커트의 실루엣 역시 테스트를 하는 게 좋은데 A라인인지 주름 스커트인지 아니면 타이트 스커트가 어울리는지를 파악한다.

이 충고는 좋은데 분명히 1번하고 동의할 수 없는 거지. 절대로. 셧다리를 창피하지 말고 강점을 찾고 자신있게 자랑하세요! 아무리 약점이 있더라도 강점이 있겠지.

2007년 패션 키워드는 장식을 최소화한 ‘미니멀리즘’. 샌들 역시 화려한 메인 장식은 줄이되 세부 디자인을 강조하는 스타일이 뜨고 있다.

오늘도 나왔어요. 근데 동아갓콤의 기사에 같이 나온 사진을 보니까 이 기사들이 “미니말리즘”이란 개념을 뭔지 아나요? 왜냐하면 이 장식 많고 리본도 있고 빤짝빤짝하는 신발들이 미니말인가요? 혹시 기사가 틀린 사진들을 잘 못 오리신 것아닌가요?

Hmm. The fashion sections of the newspapers have been talking about “minimalism” for weeks now. But do they even know what it is? Take Donga.com‘s article on the subject, for instance. The shoes above are some of the examples they give. Huh? These shoes with shiny metallics, bows and ribbons, and gaudy textures? This is minimal? Did they upload the wrong pictures by mistake?

흠. “미니말”이라고 생각하면 보통 “단순한” 아니면 “데코레이션 없는” 걸로 생각을 해요. 안그렇신가요? 사실 길거리에 미니말리즘이란 개념으로 나온 신발이 그렇게 많은 것도아닌데도 그런 사람들을 찾을 수 있었어요. 휴. 동아! 좀…복습하시지오. 메롱!

Minimal. Hmm. When I think about that word, I also think of “simple” or “unornamented.” Right? And in actuality, I don’t think there are all that many shoes made along the lines of “minimal” in Korea, but there are some out there. Take a look. 양귀비는 천하의 미인이었다고 한다. 발이 작아서 아름다웠다고 하는데 그 작은 발에 대해 상상을 해 본 적이 있는가. 과연 정말 아름다웠을까. 양귀비의 발은 마치 두 개의 작은 기형 괴물 같다. 양귀비가 신었으리라 추측되는 신발들이다.

와우. 근데 제가 대학생 때 배웠던 영화/문학평가론에러 나온 얘기인데. 생각해보면 하이힐을 신는 건 (보는 것만아니라) 대표적인 fetish이죠:

여자의 발에 대한 남자들의 견해는 동양이나 서양이나 다 같은 맥락으로 보인다. 서양에서 만든 여자 구두조차 발에 무리가 가도록 볼을 아주 좁게 만들었기 때문이다. 더군다나 힐을 아주 높여서 여자 몸의 볼륨을 만들었다. 동양의 양귀비 발과 서양의 하이힐. 도대체 섹스 어필을 얼마나 하기에 여자는 불평도 않고 그 고통을 감수하는 것일까.

여성이 남성에게 아름다운 모습을 보이고자 노력하는 것은 예나 지금이나 다르지 않다. 미국에 한동안 유행하던 코르셋과 허리를 졸라매는 스타일의 여성의류조차 여성들의 뼈를 변형시키고 장기를 뒤틀리게 했다.

여성의 패션을 위해 지금도 날마다 새로운 것이 발명되고 있다. 하지만 남자들이여. 한번 직접 착용해 보아라. 그리고 얼마나 고통스러운지 느끼길 바란다. 지금도 여성은 자신도 모르게 여자임을 과시하고자 고문 당하며 살아가고 있다. 아니 어쩌면 스스로 고문하는 것을 즐기며 살아가고 있는지도 모른다.

진짜. 아주 높고 좁은 stilletto 하이힐 신으면 어느 느낌인가? 자기는 물론 걷기도 더 힘들고 약해진 느낌을 나면서도 좀 성적인 자신을 생기는 것아닌가? 그 건 바로 하이힐은 자기 움직일 수 있는 자유를 줄이니까 약간 섹시한 취약함아닌가요? 코르셋 (corset) 마찬가치로?

“브리지트 바르도, 19인치 `개미허리` 파격 사진 공개!”이란 기사가 같은 간 일간스포츠에서 나오는데 놀라운 사실아니죠. Corset은 high heel하고 비슷한 역할한 거죠. 똑같은 심리적인 페티쉬이죠. 자극적으로 자기를 줄이고 약해보이고 몸에 한 부분만 강조하며서 성적인 맥락에서 뭘 일부러 보여주는 느낌.
