솔직히, 이 건 너무 스투피드이다. 무슨 '패션쇼'? 그냥 고급 도우미일 뿐이죠. 사진작가들이 그냥 아저씨들이죠. 아니면 신문사 사진작가들. 이 '쇼'에서 뉴디자인이나 뉴 디자이너들의 작품을 보여주는 거아니잖아요. 그냥 야한 광고뿐이지. 휴. 어이 없어.

Frankly, this was just stupid. This was a "fashion show"? These were just high-class narrator models doing a publicity stunt for a lingerie store, not anything showing off new designs or designers.

겨울이다! It's fall!

우리 명동에서 패션 리더들을 찾으러 다녔는데 멋쟁이들이 너무 많이 있었네요. 그리고 밑에 사진은 대표적인 겨울 사진인 것같았더라고요. 신기하게 위로 처다보면서 - 그 언니의 머리 위에는 새 몇 마리 날아다니는 것같지 않아요? 일단 이번 시즌의 유행하는 니트 원피스를 입는 거죠.

We went to Myeongdong to find some fashion leaders and see what the new fall trends were looking like. Since Myeongdong after quitting time on a weeknight is a perfect time to see what people are really wearing, both to work and for play, we got our cameras charged up and headed on out. I wanted to lead off with the picture below not only because the big knit sweater dress is way in this fall, but because it looks like little birds are flitting around her head in sensational fall colors. Or something like that.

근데 진짜 신기하고 멋진 건 그 하늘색 머리 밴드와 금발머리의 색깔. 진짜 멋지고. 나도 금발머리 할래!

But the really cool thing about her outfit was that sky blue bad hair band she was sporting, which went really well with that bleached blonde hair of hers. I think it looked just awesome. I'm gonna go blonde, too!

그리고 우리 말한대로 여자 구두는 옥스포드식으로 좀 귀엽게 나온 거고 펌프의 앞코는 동글게 생긴 거예요.

Oh, and just as we said they would, girlish oxfords are in style for Koreans this fall and winter, and are marked by cute, rounded look apparent even in pumps. Also in this season are thin, almost sheer leggings – hint to those who bought those thick and fugly monstrosities from last year. Die, die, die cotton stirrups!

밑에 언니는 진짜 펑키 패션이고 에스닉스타일 프린트도 좋아하시네요. 그리고 더이상은 로퍼보다 좀더 귀여운 줄이 있거나 얇고 여성스러운 끈으로 나오는 옥스포드가 참 이쁘게 유행하는 거예요.

Here we have a very cute and funky young lady who is definitely channeling the oxford-esque trend of more retro/classic heels for an overall "cuter" presentation, which she mixed in an ethnic pattern and a vest.

구두는 굿! 그리고 베스트의 베스트 (best vest)이다! ㅋㅋ

계속 빅백은 트렌드이고 니트와 긴 원피스와 레깅은 유행이죠. 밑에 언니들이 진짜 이뿌다! 숙스러워하지마, 오른쪽 언니! ㅋㅋㅋ

Obviously, big bags are still in (hey, they're useful, right?), and the thinner, more subtle leggings are being worked well. The girl on the left is definitely showing what one can do with long knits and leggings, along with some great fall color choices.

이 포즈에서 내가 '삐잔 척!'으로 포즈를 잡으라고 했더니 딱 자아아알 잡았네요! 무서워라! ㅋㅋ

In this shot, I asked her to "look miffed" or annoyed, like when you put your foot down – and she struck a pose of perfection. You go, girl!

그리고 보세요. 리깅 하려면 뚜거운 것말고 얇은 걸로 하는 거지. 착년의 내복만큼 뚜거운 리깅 - 헉. 하.지.마. ㅋㅋ 이 언니의 리깅, 색깔, 그리고 그 구두 (아까 에스닉룩 언니랑 비슷한) - 진짜 맘에 드네요.

Here, we can get a closer look at the colors, layers, and types of material. I like how loafers have given up that ugly, wide cross-strap and are being replaced by laces or even interesting bows. And unlike last year, when women didn't seem to know how to wear leggings properly, it seems as if suddenly, many women on the streets have figured it out. Love it.

These matching oxfords from eBay are very sophisticated, very retro 20's. This is one young lady who has her shit together.
In the end, a layered, preppie look seems to be in, while loafers have given way to oxfords, it seems (and thank goodness). And overall, Korean fashion has become a LOT more interesting over the past year or so, and is getting better from season. Korean fashion – fighting!

고등학생들이 언제 이렇게 멋져졌나? 이 학생들이 위반하는 것도아니고 교복을 제대로 입는 것같은데 너무 어른스럽게 친해진 커플처럼 막 다니고 있는데 분명히 10-12년전만이면 상상할 수 없는 일이죠. 옛날처럼 공부만하면서 사는 것아니고 1요즘에 10대들은 소비하고 연애도 하고 그래요. 패션 감각도 많이 강해진 것같기도 하네요. 많이 변했구나.

When did high school kids get so fashionable? Well, it is Myeongdong, I guess. But still, things have changed a lot in the space of 10-12 years, from back when such a sight in broad daylight with adults around would have been nearly unthinkable. Nowadays, Korean students are no longer just living a life of study and testing, but consume goods, go on dates, and otherwise display a lot more maturity than in the old days. Things done changed.

In the Fabulous Fashionistas column, we shoot the most fashionably original people we can find on the streets of Seoul and bring them to you. We don't choose them because they follow the trends the most closely, nor because they have the most designers labels attached to their bodies, but because they've managed to create their own unique style that one can't simply pass by without wanting to remember.

사실, 우리 이 스트리트 패션 사진들이 서울에서 처음으로 해봤을 때 찍은 거니까 그리고 이 날은 내가 첫 찍은 사진이라서 실수했어요. 고백하면, ISO가 너무 높이 되어 있었고 (전날 처녘에 촬영하느라) 그리고 밝은 배경 앞에 안찍어야 했는데…휴. 그래서 그 스트리트 모델들한테 사과해야 되겠어요. 생각만큼 사진들이 잘 안나오니까 미안하고 내 탓이라고요. 너무 멋지게 옷을 입고 있었는데…아쉬워라.

These were some of the first street portraits we took, and I have something to confess: I messed up the sensitivity settings – I had it set to 1600 (from shooting the previous night) and shouldn't have shot against such a bright background. To the very fashionable couple, I have to say, "I'm sorry." I didn't get as good as pictures of you as I wanted, which was totally my fault. But we liked your look too much to leave it out. So, we apologize for the grainy look.

근데 이젠 패션 얘기부터 시작하면 그 언니는 역시 섹시한 쿨하시고 그 미니멀이즘적인 하얀 티셔츠와 하얀 가방, 아주 스키니한 스키니진 룩 - 눈에 띄는 투명한 "유리슬리퍼"같은 뮬한테 너무 퍼펙트한 배경이네요. 그리고 제임즈딘이랑 비슷한 느낌이 나게 하는 그 캐주얼한 쿨 남자분…아주 나이스이다! 그냥 우연히 입은 것처럼 입고 다니는 초록/금색 티셔츠와 진…골드 글씨와 진의 구멍에서 보일 수 있는 골드 실, 그리고 신발에 골드 앞코…미묘한 코디 잘하신 것같아요. 너무 쿨이죠?

As for the look itself, I'll just say that the young lady in the shot is definitely a sexy sort of cool, with her plain white top, super-skinny jeans, and sultry glass slippers; her boyfriend has a casual and cool confidence that says James Dean to me, and his seemingly accidental (but not!) matching, with the green-and-gold money tee, matching gold thread visible through the rips in the jeans, and the gold tips on his sneakers is pretty darn cool.

그리고 가방 말이야. 또 미니멀이즘을 표현하는 깨끗해보이는 그 하얀 가방! 옷이 미니말식으로 하셨으니까 그 신발이 더 크게 주인공이 되는 거죠 - 다음에 페디큐어 하면 어떻실까요? 너무 딱 이쁠 것같아서…벌써 이쁘신데…

And I love the bag! And the shoes! With the minimalist clothes, they add just the right touch of flair – perhaps a pedicure would complete the look?

마지막 멘트으로 제임즈딘한테 뭐랄까? 눈빛을 보면 그의 좋용한 자신감을 느낄 수 있으니까 여기서 많이 쓸 필요 없겠네요 - 그냥 오스틴파워의 "모조"이란 것 많이 있다고…역시 그 눈빛 때문에 그 여자친구가 넘어갔었젰죠? ㅋㅋㅋ 일단 이 멋쟁이 커플한테 감사합니다!

And as for James Dean here, what can one say? That confident look says it all – and is the one that surely won over his young lady in the first place. His mojo was definitely working! Thanks to this fashionable couple for agreeing to pose for us!

우리 "길거리 스타일" 컬럼은 개인의 패션 선택만 벤치마킁하는 것아니라, 찰라리 대표적인 길거리에서 보일 수 있는 패션 장르를 잡으려고 해요.

"Street Styles" tracks not just individual fashion choices, but tries to capture fashion that is representative of types of fashion genres visible on the Korean streets.

이 커플은 완전히 "퍼펙트 커플"아닌가요? 너무 서로 빠져 있어서 부러워하네요. 이 대표적인 "강북 스타일"은 귀여우며 캐쥬얼인 것같아요. 미국인입장에서는 이 언니는 좀 정장한 편인데 한국에서는 여성들이 기본적으로 패션/옷/화장품에 신경 더 쓰는 편이라서 한국인의 입장에서는 좀 일상적인 옷이죠. 아무래도 한국에서는 남자들이 좀 더 캐쥬얼하게 입고 나오는 것같아요. 또 다른 example이 여기예요.

This young couple seems the epitome of "the perfect couple" in that they are so doting and starry-eyed for each other. Also, their casual Seoul fashion is very typical of the "north of the river" style that is both cutesy and casual. Note that, according to American eyes, men are often more casual than women, for whom this look is somewhat more than casual, but less than "dress." There's another example of this here.

요새는 한국여성의 패션 포인트는 리븐이예요. 귀여운 리븐들 3개 있죠.

Notice that the girlish look is accented by lots of ribbons and bows, which is a staple item of Korean women's fashion in recent days.

그리고 이 평펌하면서도 이쁘고 스마트한 가방이 이 귀여운 언니의 룩하고 딱 맞는 것같아요. 큐트 앤드 캐쥬얼이죠?

And I quite like her purse, which seems to match the cute yet casual style she's going for.
