The wonderful actress beloved by many apparently committed suicide in her bathroom of her home yesterday. Despite her fame, she had experienced a divorce battle that damaged her image. When she made a comeback afterwards, many people were skeptical of her prospects for future success, but she once again proved herself one of the best Korean actresses to ever grace the screen. Many women could relate with her real-life situations and experiences, and praised her for being such a great mother to her beautiful two children. She recently made another huge hit by starring in what has become her last drama, called ‘The Last Scandal of My Love Life’ which prompted the “jummarella” syndrome: the combination of the middle-aged woman “ajumma” with “Cinderella.”

많은 사람들한테 사랑을 받았던 그녀는 자신의 집 화징실에서 자살을 한것으로 보인다. 비록 그녀의 화려한 명예에 불구하고 그녀는 한번 힘든 이혼을 겪은 경험이 있었다. 이혼뒤에 그녀의 컴백을 앞두고 있었을 즈음에 사람들의 반응은 그녀가 과연 예전처럼 톱스타 자리를 지킬수 있는지 확신을 하지 않았다. 그러나 그녀의 컴백은 성공적이었고 다시한번 그녀가 톱스타라는걸 증명했다. 그녀의 마지막 작품이 되버린 드라마 ‘내 마지막 스캔들’ 은 ‘줌마렐라’ 신드롬 까지 일으켰었다.

The nation is in shock because of her sudden death, and I am no exception. Having met her and her family in person through a friend, I remember her as being very down to earth and having a witty sense of humor. Her two children, a boy and a girl, were the type that you would fall in love with instantly. They had so much light and energy in them. That made me think about how she did such a great job in raising them. After meeting her, I became an even bigger fan. Her legacy will go on and she will be remembered as one of the greatest Korean actresses. I send my deepest condolences to her family and friends.

전국민은 지금 그녀의 죽음 소식으로 인해서 충격에 빠져 있는 상태고 나도 그 중에 한명이다. 아는 분으로 통해서 그녀와 그녀의 아이들을 처음 만났을 당시에 그녀가 솔직하고 유머 감각이 뛰어났다는 걸 알게 됐다. 그녀의 두 아이들, 아들과 딸은 어느 누구도 첫눈의 반할 정도로 사랑스러운 아이들이었다. 그녀가 아이들을 위해서 올바르게 크도록 열심히 한다는 생각을 들게 했었다. 그리고 나는 그녀를 만난 이후 더 큰 팬이 돼버렸다. 비록 그녀는 더이상 이세상엔 없지만 그녀는 기억 될것이다. 그녀의 가족들과 친구들에게 삼가 조의를 표합니다.

Born from a rockstar father (RIP) and a mother who was an interior designer, my fashion is inspired by anything from flowers to food to people. One doesn’t have to look at just clothes to be inspired, since fashion inspiration can come from any source. In particular, I like the styles of Sofia Coppola, Lou Dillon, and Kate Lanphear, but my mentor is my mother, who taught me everything about fashion, and is the original Carrie Bradshaw — she mixed and matched way before that character existed.

록스타였던 아버지 그리고 인테리어 디자인을 하시던 어머니 사이에서 태어났고 나는 패션에 대해서 영향을 언제 어디선지 받을수 있다. 나는 특히 사람들 중에서는 소피아 코폴라, 루 딜론, 케이트 란피어의 스타일들을 좋아하지만 나의 진정한 스승은 나의 엄마다. 엄마는 나한테 패션에 대해서 모든걸 가르쳐주셨고 원조 캐리 브래드쇼라고 해도 과언이 아닐 정도로 엄마는 믹스 앤 매치를 너무 완벽하게 소화할 수 있는 타고난 센스를 가지셨다.

My philosophy? That fashion is erotic. People can be easily aroused when new seasons or clothing collections come, or more simply, when something or someone manages to titillate the senses. One thing I’m confident about? Well, there’s definitely more than one, but I can probably outdo Paris Hilton when it comes to shopping.

나의 패션 철학은 에로틱하다고 생각한다. 사람들은 매 시즌 마다 나오는 컬렉션들을 접할때 굉장한 흥분을 느낀다. 그리고 내가 가장 자신있는 것은? 아마도 여러가지가 있겠지만 그중에 하나는 패리스 힐튼 보다 쇼핑을 광적으로 할수 있다고 생각한다.

As a writer for FMS, I plan to concentrate mostly on women’s fashion, and I want to produce content that’s edgy and frank. I liked how FMS thinks that “fashion is fetish” while I believe that “fashion is erotic.” Great minds think alike, no? See you around the site.

FMS의 컬럼니스트로서 내가 해야할 임무는 여성 패션을 중점으로 두고 에지 있고 솔직한 내용들을 전하고 싶다. FMS 는 패션이 페티시하다고 하는 반면에 나는 패션이 에로틱 하다고 생각한다. 위인끼리는 생각이 통한다고 하는 말도 있잖아?

The Korean Fashion Mag Reviews section covers Korean fashion magazines and provides basic information about their content and style, and reviews individual issues on a monthly basis. This offers the non-Korean audience a peek into the world of Korean fashion publishing, while letting the Korean viewer know what’s worth reading while waiting in the hairdresser’s chair every month. 

잡지/Magazine: An An

설명: 앙앙 본지는 일본이다. 일본판은 매주 출판 하지만 한국판은 매달 출판하고 있다. 그래도 앙앙 코리아도 이미 100호 넘게 발행했고 이번달 까지 포함해서 104호다. 잡지대상은 20대에서 30대 여성들이고 항상 패션이랑 뷰티에 관한 정보들로 꽉 찼다.

Description: An An is originally a Japan-based women’s fashion magazine. While the Japanese version runs on a weekly basis, the Korea one runs it every month. An An Korea has already published over a hundred issues and their most recent one is their one hundred fourth. The magazine targets women in their twenties to early thirties and it is always packed with information on fashion and beauty.

장점들: 상세한 패션 스타일링에 관한 기사들, 요즘 ‘핫’ 한 한국 연예인들에 화보 인터뷰, 시즌마다 다루는 유행 아이템 정보, 공짜로 주는 룩북, 동네에 있는 맛집들을 다루는 작은 부록, 인기 있는 꽃미남들의 인터뷰, 직장 조언, 그리고 믿을 수있는 뷰티 리뷰.

Strengths: Descriptive articles on fashion styling, photo shoot interviews of up and coming Korean celebrities in their twenties, coverage on ‘it’ fashion items for the season, a free fashion lookbook, a small review book covering trendy neighborhoods, interviews on ‘it’ boys, career advices, and trustworthy beauty reviews.

단점들: 할리웃 연예인들의 관한 스타일 정보들이 너무 많아 독창적이지 않고 차라리 한국 연예인들의 스타일들을 더 봤으면 하고, 광고들도 덜 있었으면 (하지만 이건 한국에 있는 모든 잡지들도 마찬가지다), 그리고 누구나 다 다를수 있는 패션 정보들 보다 창조력이 있는 기사들도 보고 싶다.

Weaknesses: Too much coverage of Hollywood celebrity styles, which leads to unoriginality and blind following on this side of the water. There should be more on Korean celebrities instead, and less advertisements (although this is a problem for every magazine), and offer more creative rather than mainstream fashion information.

보이다시피, 단점들은 별로 없는 편이다. 유용한 패션 정보들 때문에 쓸떼 없는 물건들을 사는 대신에 필요한 물건들은 살수 있게 도움을 준다. 그러나 흥미있는 스타일링이랑 사진들도 더 보고싶다. 잡지에 관한 정보를 더 얻고 싶으면 홈페이지를 방문하세요.

As you can see, there’s not too much to dislike about the magazine. It’s a fashion magazine that gives great advice where you can be inspired to buy fashion items that won’t let your money go to waste. However, it would be nice to see more interesting photos and styling tips. You can check out their website for more information, but unfortunately it’s only in Korean.
