Although they are sometimes the butt of jokes, in their own particular way, the Korean ajumma is one of the most fashionable figures on the streets. In this picture, between the purse being held close to the breast and the pursed lips, I definitely got the sense that this was a discerning lady who didn’t easily part with her money, even as she’s perhaps ready to shop ’til she drops.

O.O i thought it was a man…
LMAO…ha! @ haj’s comment. I gotta say the shot makes this lady look a bit butch…thank goodness for the pastels
Okay, this is the thing. There are SOME Korean adjumas who are very fashionable. But those women aren’t the butt of the adjuma jokes I hear.
The ones I hear jokes about are the ones with the wiry, and really bad, perm fros, predictable polyester outfits, and sensible vinyl shoes with the accompanying sensible ankle hose (I can recall this in detail because I was sitting next to a pair of them this morning). Those women, however, are from a different class. They appear, at least on the surface, to be mostly working class.
This woman, with her pastel accessories appears to be closer than not to the “ladies who lunch” level of society.
Looks like she dosen’t want her picture taken.
