As usual, the online fashion press is stating the perfectly obvious by telling us that booties and other types of ankle boots are in (which anyone who has been in a public place would have know more than a month ago), but there is some useful information, nevertheless.

In an nutshell, ankle boots are a hit (so says the article) because it adds a lot of apparent length to the leg in a way that traditional boots can’t. And since Korean women are obsessed with height, which most women cite as a reason for wearing high heels all the time, it’s a boon. You get the boot but don’t give have to give up any leg. 진짜 재밌네요. 근데 한국사람끼리에 왜 이렇게 키에 대해서 막 신경쓰는지 모르겠네. 다리가 짧아보이면 어때? 그리고 원래 숏다리면 앵클부츠를 신고 그래도 다리 짧아보이는데. 아마 한국의 키가 커보이게 하는 패션 작전들 중에 잘했던 건 - 만약에 키에 대해서 신경을 쓴다면 - 90년대 긴 청바지랑 아주 높은 하이힐을 신으면 진짜 커보였던 같더라고요.

근데 내 생각엔 부티즈를 신고 다리 더 길어보이는 건…좀 많은 효과가 아닌 것같아요. 그냥 이뻐서 신거나 뭐 자기 스타일이랑 이 옥스포드/부티즈 스타일로 하시죠. 우리가 8월달에 그렇게 말했는데…ㅋㅋ

As we said back in August, this is about as “Oxfordy” as we think the trend will ever go in Korea, since shoes and overall women’s style tends not to go as androgynous as in the US or Europe, and stays on the safer side of “girly.” And we don’t think it’s about “adding length” as much as the look and style of the shoe itself.
