I HATE the sassy slap. First of all, my dears, have some respect for yourselves and your own safety by taking the half second it takes to get that strap on. Someday a woman walking past me with the slap is going to get her strap caught on something and faceplant right into the colorful bricks of Seoul, but instead of having sympathy for her I will shoot her a look of disapproval as I go "tsk, tsk!" Think of your image, think of your ankles.
Even if you don't have the respect and care for yourself, at least have some for the shoes. It ruins the look of the shoe entirely. If you're looking for comfort, buy tennis shoes. If you're looking for convenience then buy slip-ons or mules. Slingbacks are meant to have that sexy little strap around your heel ~ it streamlines the look of the shoe, particularly from the side and has a little more "oomph" and pizzaz than staid cousins like pumps while being a little more clean and substantial than those silly summer sandals. If you're not going to wear it you've degraded your shoe to a second-class slip on.
Admittedly I'm not a man, but I'm seriously trying very hard to understand how this rotten walk could have any ounce of sexiness and failing miserably. A sexy walk is a sexy walk, but a sexy walk with a strap flopping around under the heel is just ugly. It's not carefree and sassy, it's just careless and sloppy. As a matter of fact, I am officially renaming from "sassy" to "sloppy slap". Heed my words, O Mortals.
Respect yourself, respect your shoes, and respect the strap!

I think its sexy because it intentionally draws mens attention to their feet (because of the 'slap'slap' sound) and because it looks so careless. I come from Holland, Europe and the sassy slap walk is very very seldom to be seen there. I was in America last year - the same.

From what I see in other sites it is a lot different in Asia. For instance Japan - a lot of the local imgboards show office ladies walking in public with slingbacks with straps under their feet. I cannot judge about Korea because this feet man seoul is the only site I know on this subject. I do not know if in Korea you have the same number of imgboards of which Japan is so wellknown.

So why only in Asia? I think it is a combination of type of shoes (the strap slides easily under the heel), in Japan the women often change from shoes (shoes are not worn inside house) and last - if a lot of women walk that way it is socially 'accepted'.
